Cheapest way to holiday locally in AU

Hello guys,

We are 6 adults and a infant looking to plan our 3 days holidays in first week of March 2014 within AU.
Looking at Jetstar flight tickets( Syd <-> Melb) we are thinking to goto Melb.

However, we are not sure yet on any specific holiday apartments/ hotel / house which can accommodate all of us together and allow us to cook - just to cut down total cost.

Any specific recommendations for holiday apartments/ hotel / house in Melbourne?

Check out air bnb. We've used them a few times in the past year, and almost exclusively for a recent trip to Tasmania. Stayed at some awesome places for far less than the place of a motel.

    • I can give you a referral link that will save you $28 on your first booking if you want one. In the interest of full disclosure, I would also get the $28 credit, but that's not my purpose in suggesting you use AIR bnb.

  • We stayed in Westside Terrace, Maribrynong in a Stayz apartment there in early Dec. It is on three levels and sleeps 7, fully self contained and 500m to Highpoint with trams nearby. It was perfect for us.

    • Thanks, im seeing $220/ nightfor that timeframe. How much u paid?

      • $240 for 6 people. It was much cheaper for us than a hotel and located near Ascot Vale as we had our son's wedding reception there. We were very impressed with all the facilities and the little things supplied, even laundry powder for washing machine. Depends on what and where you are looking for. Some wotif mystery deals are good too. Just search through them and it is possible most times to work out where they are. The biggest killer in Melbourne on a Saturday night is the extra cost of accommodation. Can be very costly for a family. Good luck.
