BigW - No return or exchange on health and beauty?

Not sure if this applies to all stores or just QV Melbourne, but anything you buy from the 'Health and Beauty' section of BigW is non-refundable regardless of whether it is unopened, unused, even if the seal is visibly intact as it was in my case. The lady explicitly told me "no refunds or exchange on Health and Beauty for health and safety reasons" After a bit of cajoling (manager came) I was able to get a refund for a bottle of eucalyptus lotion I bought several days earlier (it was only four bucks and change but didn't wanna carry it around all day).

Health and Beauty doesn't appear under the product exclusion list on the BigW site and IIRC no signage advising people to choose carefully in that part of the store. Some years back I did return a hairdryer that I used twice but wasn't that good, so I guess I can sort of understand but if something is sealed even priceline will refund no issues.

    Consumer Law trumps every rule stores make up. What is the reason that you are returning it, if it faulty or doesn't work as expected you are entitled to a refund

      I've heard of a lot of exceptions based on health and safety, underwear etc, creams, lotions, mostly health related stuff. So im not surprised about the beauty things as well, because they have to be able to resell it, but if its fake, or dodge and someone puts it on their skin and reacts they are in big trouble.

      It seems like OP was lucky the didn't want the hassle of a few bucks and just refunded and probably chucked the product away, it's a shame, but due to fear the lotion you returned will just be landfill.

        It was a brand new unopened bottle of eycaluptus oil (wanted to use it as a disinfectant but after some last minute checking online found turps which I already had a better alternative). The safety seal was still intact and the contents were in no way damaged or tarnished. The rep saw this as well.

        But absolutely, I don't want some butt cream or roll on that's been smeared on some guys behind lol.

      True, but most big box department stores or chain stores have 'change of mind' or hassle free returns if in original condition, opened, accompanied with a receipt on most things they sell.
