  • my last 2 jb experiences, better wait for 1-2 days just in case

    1. cydia server overload
    2. some bugs in the jb itself

Do NOT get this jailbreak. It doesn't have the official Cydia for iOS 7 (as stated by Saurik himself), hasn't been tested with Substrate, hasn't been tested by major developers AND is bundled with some Chinese pirate app which auto adds its own spamming repos.

Wait for a FEW WEEKS now until this shit gets sorted out.

    • AND is bundled with some Chinese pirate app which auto adds its own spamming repos.

I was willing to compromise until you posted that. What's the back-story here?

The specifics haven't been disclosed yet but it is alleged that the reason for this is that the evad3rs were promised monetary incentives in return for using the Chinese party's code as part of the jailbreak. Saurik had already warned evad3rs about the shadyness of the group months before the deal was struck but they went ahead anyways. What we have ended up with is a jailbreak that was released in a not fully functional state without any sort of testing by Saurik (because they didn't even tell Saurik they're releasing it) with malicious code attached to it.

Saurik has now asked for a fixed tethered version to be released so that him and the devs can actually work with it to make a proper usable jailbreak.

Edit: A more clear view as presented by Saurik:

"I was trying to help them setup a deal with another Chinese company; this deal fell through when they wanted to go with TaiG: I could no longer morally justify working on the deal. We examined refactoring the deal somewhat for a week or so, but in the end (as of like a week ago) we were only looking at potentially doing some kind of normal "enterprise consulting" arrangement with them.

And yeah, as others point out: the summary of their point is more "I was working with some other jailbreakers", not "with another company". As I said on Twitter (in 140-character bursts):

So, yes: someone approached me with a potential jailbreak; the goal being to get a non-piracy-laden jailbreak out; this does not seem bad…

…in particular, I do not see how it is "backstabbing" @evad3rs (as some claim): it was unlikely to work, and was mostly just "having fun".

Also, I am not part of @evad3rs: they made that very clear to me. They never told me anything about their exploit. Should I not help others?

I guess now the argument is that if people come to me with a potential jailbreak, in order to not "backstab", I am not allowed to help them?

Regardless, I gave the iOS 7 Substrate build to evad3rs on September 30th, and all I needed to test was a new copy of redsn0w (not evasi0n).

I guess I don't understand "we really wanted TaiG's deal, so when we heard a rumor of an open jailbreak we were rushed: shame on saurik" :/"

Edit2: It is being said that the payout for the evad3rs was $1,000,000. It has also been reported that the jailbreak was rushed because someone (GeoHot, yes hes back) approached Saurik with a jailbreak and wanted to do a deal to release it. Saurik has been accused of backstabbing the evad3rs even though, as he said above, they didn't consider him a part of the team. Knowing that this rival jailbreak could be released with Saurik now consider geohot's proposal, evad3rs released a rush jailbreak. This means it was basically a race to the iOS 7 jailbreak and if evad3rs won, they would get $1,000,000 (amount confirmed by iH8Snow.

Edit3: Winocm has quit the jailbreak community. This..isn't good.

Edit4: @Dirk_Gently is working on a non-TIAG (the malicious code company) jailbreak installer. Experimental version has been released.

      • Here's what I've just read this morning on the explanation of this whole Taig thing.

        http://evasi0n.com/l.html

        • Yeah I saw that too. There quite a bit of uncertainty as to how much of this is exactly how it happened because of conflicting statements. Whether it not they will actually pull TAIG out of the jailbreak because we're talking about a million dollars here.

While i'd like to believe otherwise, I think this'll be the last public jailbreak we'll see..from the evad3rs at least. They wanted to get paid and not just praised. I think they know that the next jb is not guaranteed and this might have been their only chance to make something out of it.

Again, the last paragraph above is just what I think happened in the minds of the evad3rs.

Anyways, lets see what happens now. For all we know, GeoHot may still release their jailbreak.

  • Interesting. I want to know where $1 million is coming from to jailbreak a device.

    • Its coming from Taig.

  • 7.0.1 is out without Taig

  • I wouldn't bother.. if u have a iPhone 5 or later.. given jailbreaking leaves a digital code on the device which completely voids your warranty from apple..

    justsaying

    • Wat.

Jailbreaking does viod you warranty but that is known.

What's this "digital code" you talk of?

There are no leftovers when you restore. Once you restore to remove the jailbreak, nothing from the jailbreak is left behind. Nothing can be detected from the jailbreak that once was.

      • Apple put coding in its iPhone 5 that leaves a digital signature if it is jailbroken.
evasi0n even makes a note of it in its terms and conditions.
Apples warranty document even directly refers to jailbreaking and the fact that doing so voids warranty, even if you restore to factory settings. Apple stores or service centres will plug iphone into a device when they "take it out back to diagnose the issue" and it will tell them if it has ever been jailbroken.

        • Apple's T&C mentions Jailbreaking because they know about Jailbreaking. Secondly, restoring via iTunes with a clean iOS install removes all previous files. No remainders. This means there is no way to tell whether the device was previously jailbroken or not. This is based on everything I have heard and experienced with Apple. If you are certain that what you say is true, would you be able to provide a source for this information?

        • having personally seen the results of the test… the print out said

"Device Compromised, Unauthorised software has been installed on device"

Warranty was not honoured.. can argue with me until u r blue in the face, i have seen it first hand and have friends who work at apple who can also confirm it.

My home button stopped working, the refused to fix it and handed me the report which said my phone was "compromised" i said WTF does that mean and i was informed it had been jailbroken… so i can guarantee you it leaves remnants and a digital signature.

  • jailbreak 6.1.3 is out

    http://p0sixspwn.com/

if op wants to put them together in one form

  • So there's no hope for my iPhone 4 which I stupidly upgraded to iOS 7 to downgrade to iOS 6?
