I'm being harassed by VAYA (the phone company)

I started signing up to their service a couple of months ago, but decided not to go ahead with it after I read some bad reviews about it, so I quit the sign up process without sending the form. A day later I got a call from a hidden number which turned out to be a woman with a strong accent calling from a weak line, telling me "my order was incomplete" and pushing me to sign up. I told her (with great difficulty) that I wasn't interested, and to delete my file. (I always make this request when some company uses my details without me giving it to them). Fast forward a month to yesterday, and a number is calling but stops after a couple of rings. I look up the number and sure enough it is either a scam call, or a Vaya call centre (¿porque no los dos?) - so when the phone rings again, I am ready, but the line is so bad, that the lady on the other end shouts "I will call you back" before hanging up. Hours later, I get the dreaded call, same lady, and explained to her that I had already told Vaya that I wasn't interested, and to please delete my details. She says "ok, no problem" and hangs up on me. I proceded to block the number, and thought that was the end of it.

Today, I got a call from a private number, and picked up to absolute silence on the other end. I hung up, and immediately got a text "please call Vaya on 1300008292 as we are unable to complete your online order due to missing information required to set up your account"

I am being Mod: Foul Language with. I never gave them my details, they sneakily stole them off me, and are using them to constantly badger me. How can I make it stop? Can I report this to someone?

To those thinking about signing up with Vaya, have a look at the many many negative reviews it has received in the short period it has been operating, and ask yourself if it is really worth it.

You could probably lodge a complaint with the Dept of Fair Trading.
    http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/About_us/Online_services/L…

I find it unlikely that Vaya would actually cold call somebody to complete their order. All I do know is if that you need to actually contact their support centre you can do so via email or phone — see http://www.vaya.net.au/index.cfm?option=Contact%20Us

Their phone number should be 1300 008 292. I suggest ringing them up and see if they have actually called you.

Other than that… I've noticed you have an incomplete order at Vaya!! Would you like us to continue processing your account signup???

  • Tell them you are lodging a complaint with police for harassment and need their full name and contact number

I had a VAYA rep called me on my mobile phone (a lady with accent) telling me that I have "won" a Samsung Galaxy 4G phone and somehow my number was selected (as I have never been a Vaya customer nor tried their signup form). And it turns out the so-called "free" phone also comes with $52/month mobile plans. I hung out after telling her that $52/month is not a good value for unlimited mobile plan.

Two days later I got another call from VAYA — a bloke this time — asking whether I am interested in their unlimited plans.

I did a search later (on Whirlpool) and it seems there are other people getting cold-call from them. On the hindsight I should have reported them.

  • Doesn't sound good at all! I'm with Vaya on one of the old, now unavailable $11 plans and haven't had any troubles, but seeing quite a few problems recently.

OP, there is an active rep over at the Vaya thread on Whirlpool. Perhaps worth mentioning this there? The rep (Ben) generally seems happy to help.

I am with Vaya on an unlimited $36 plan, and Ive never had any issues with them at all.

  • also, email vaya and make a complaint. their privacy policy might have a specific email address to use. are you on the do-not-call registry?

  • When they call again just have some fun. Chat them up, ask to marry (male OR female), etc. The calls will stop pretty quick. Another trick I use is, not say hello when I pick up the phone. Australians on the other end will always go, "Hello!?" Out of all the marketing calls I get however, not a single one does. They just hang up if you don't speak first.

Or use the serious methods above.

  • If you never gave them your details, such as your phone number, how did they discover them?

I can only assume it was one of those signup processes that is done in stages, i.e. you fill in some of the details then click "next". If so, at that stage, you have given them some of your details, regardless of whether you complete the signup process.
