Samsung 55" TV Series 7 or Series 8

Hi everybody,

I am after a new TV & being end of year sales time (boxing day), I'm assuming now is the best time to buy one? Or am i just dreaming?

I am interested in the Samsung 55" 3D Smart TV's. Im interested in the Series 8 Model # - UA55F8000 or the Series 7 Model #UA55F7100. Is it worth getting the series 8 or should i just get the series 7? I'm trying to have a samsung theme in my house, hence why I'm set on buying a Samsung tv, just not sure which one i should be getting.

The cheapest i have found for the series 8 tv is for $2484 (plus $22 delivery to Melbourne) at pcntech.com.au & that is quite a bit cheaper than what Good Guys or Appliancesonline or binglee list it for, unless somebody knows that there is a samsung factory outlet or another site/store that would have a better price or beat that price?

The cheapest i have found for the series 7 tv is for $1883 (plus $22 delivery to Melbourne) at pcntech.com.au aswell.

So if anybody knows a place locally that sells them at the same price or a better price anywhere else, just let me know & ill check it out.

Any suggestions or help would be much appreacited.

Thanks in advance.

I think the series 7 is better value. I find that the advantages of the series 8 is quite minimal.

Differences between series 7 and 8:
Dual core vs Quad core - Just faster loading times on apps
Built-in camera - Can be bought separately if needed, motion control is practically useless
better microdimming - I personally can't tell the difference of the picture quality
Evolution Kit - If you're worried about future proofing your TV buy a UHD.

    • Thanks for the reply.

The only reason i enquired about the series 8 was because it was the best/top end option available from Samsung without looking at UHD's.

I originally was looking at the series 7, but today i went past my local Good Guys store & they had both the series 7 & series 8 tv's next to each other on display & the picture quality look better on the series 8.

The series 7 is a fair bit cheaper than the series 8 when i last checked too. Ill try & find the link for the best price i could find & post it here & see which would be the better option & whether or not its worth paying the extra for the series 8 or not.

You are in Melbourne. Go to Costco. They will probably be the cheapest place, even after $60 membership.

        • Costco isnt that far from me at all, so i might look into that. I didnt realise Costco sold tv's as last time i tried to find something i couldnt find a catalogue or items listed that they sold or at what prices.

          Thanks for that.

  • I have updated the original post & title with the details of both the series 7 & series 8 tv's & the best prices i have found so far.

Anybody have any dealings with audiolandonline? They have a website that lists their ebay listings. They currently have both the series 7 & series 8 listed for sale, however everything is listed as Manufacturer Refurbished. Does that mean that they were faulty but repaired stock? Or are they used but tested to be good as new? Or are they all new just listed as refurbished unless stated in the description?

There is almost always somebody who can do it cheaper:

      http://streamaster.com.au/samsung-ua55f8000am-series-8-55inc…
      $2485

These refurbished ones are usually DOA's they have repaired, or TV's that have come back with something small wrong and repaired after that.
Sometimes even carton damaged ones that have been thoroughly checked come back into a second life…..

      • Thanks for the reply. Ive decided to just get a brand new TV rather than a refurbished/repaired/used TV.

I was hoping to make it to the Boxing Day sales but ive been called into work, but I'm hoping ill still be able to find a good price on the TV on the day after boxing day.

I'm still trying to figure out if its worth spending the extra & getting the series 8 or should i just get the series 7.

I'm hoping the prices will go down for both the TV's due to the stocktake sales & ill be able to find a good price.

Dual core vs Quad core processor, clear motion rate is higher, the 8 series has a built in camera, and a couple more small things. You need to decide if you wants these extras.

    • Thanks again for the reply.

This will be my first 3D Led Smart Tv & hence why i want to get something nice that will last a long time & that i wouldnt have to worry about upgrading anytime soon. Ive never had a TV like the above series 7 or series 8 & hence why I'm unsure as to which features i would need & wouldnt need & if its worth spending the extra couple hundred.

  • The camera is needed if you Skype with friends and relatives a lot to name an example. I know there is a vieophone through which you can make videocalls and see the receiver, maybe that is coming soon as well, like call through the TV? . The quad core is to make the smart experience better, read below:

This article gives info on the 8 series….
