I read the title as Kindle paperweight:)
Always the same jokes
Kindle:
Compatible with Amazon.com
More established Amazon ecosystem.
Probably better hardware (yes, this is me being vague). Based on review at http://reviews.cnet.com/e-book-readers/kobo-glo/4505-3508_7-… comparison with previous gen Paperwhite. IMO, caveat lector etc.
$150Kobo Glo (bought yesterday):
Compatible with local library.
Compatible with local bookshops.
Compatible with getpocket.com
µSD card support
$100I use a kindle and a kobo. The best thing about the kindle is the access to so many free books. You cannot get anywhere near that with the kobo. I look at the kindle ecosystem as a bonus, not a burden. Then if I need to read outside of that ecosystem I use the kobo. With the price of both so cheap these days why not use both, and leave the silly which one's better argument alone?
Which one would you buy if you were to buy just one?
This at $148 or the Kobo at $98?
Makes for a tough decision - the main thing putting me off the Kobo at the moment is reading lots of posts talking about wasteful/incorrect formatting and page layout of books.
Kindle wins if for no other reason than the enormous amount of free books available. Also, the $98 Kobo is touch screen only. To get a backlit screen like this Kindle you have to buy the Kobo Glo, which retails for $158. So even on that score Kindle wins again.
Is this the WiFi only version?
Or WiFi & 3G?This is the wi-if only.
Oh crap.. I really hope DJ will actually send out the Paperwhite I ordered and paid for. I've not heard a word from them since.
DO NOT "Click-and-collect" and expect to collect it. Your store might have stock but these bozos will ship it via courier to the store and you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PICK IT UP, even if the store has it in stock, until NEXT YEAR.
Go with the advertised price and WALK INTO the store if you want it any time soon.
(Yes, I'm annoyed. What a joke this 'Click and Collect' is)
Is this for the Kindle only, I'm planning to Click & Collect an Ipad Air, would that be the same and take till next year even if the store has stock? Thanks!
On the page where you select the store, there's a bar that shows up with a truck in it ABOVE where you select the store. That will tell you their estimated delivery date. Please have a look and tell me I'm not just blind and I should have noticed that blatantly obvious bad news?
What does DJ use for shipping?
They sent my Kindle few days ago providing tracking number (might be just a reference number). But I have no idea where to check it.Did you create a DJ account or purchase as guest? If you have an account you can track it there.
DJ electronics are backed by Dick Smith, so I guess they both use Star Track for delivery.
PS: I searched the tracking no on Startrack, unfortunately got nothing, say they donot have the record related to provided tracking no. WTF.
I made the exact same error. I thought 'Click and collect' would be the same as the way Dick Smith or JB Hi Fi does 'Click and collect' - a staff member would put aside store stock for you to pick up.
I put an order in the Auburn store only to notice after I didn't get a notification that the delivery date was set at the beginning of next year. Since this is a Christmas present, that obviously wasn't going to work, so I called up only to be told that they CAN'T cancel the order even though it hasn't been shipped out yet. They can't even change the store it's going to be delivered to, which is irritating because Auburn is a bit hard for me to get to.
I made my way to the Auburn store today to actually buy one myself, and then I'm going to have to go back next year just to return the one I ordered online.
A staff member on the phone told me that Click & Collect was a new system for them and they were aware of how it could be confusingly different from the way other retailers did 'Click & Collect' but they had been told by management that during the Christmas period they were not permitted to make any changes to orders. Ugh.
Cool, thanks!
