Mini Evaporative Cooler - does it actually cool?

looking to get this cooler from anaconda for my camp trip and one use this before, i assume for the best effect for cooling is to use icy water.

    Only if the humidity is low and even then the cooling effect is small.

    As you already suspect it doesn't work. They saturate the air with moisture raising humidity. Exactly what you do not want on a hot day. Real air conditioners remove moisture making it more comfortable. You're better off just shading the tent with a large tarp. The breeze coming through will be cooled by the shaded ground. Then either use just the fan feature, or, get a cheap tent fan that runs on batteries or a small solar panel.
