Electricity and gas provider in SA

I m looking to change from my existing gas and electricity provider, currently I am with energy Australia and getting 10 % of my full bill if pay by due date. There last letter stated from now onwards they will give discount only on usage charges. Not sounds good so if any one can recommend cheaper options for South Australia energy and gas providers

  • Hey kt, while it may not be relevant to you, here is a link to a thread of a spreadsheet I created for comparing suppliers in NSW. Some may apply to you, but at the very least, it may give you an idea of what companies offer in NSW and who is cheapest, and then how you can compare them in SA.

Have heard and had great experiences with Red here in NSW, so I imagine that would translate to SA.

I know the Red referrals can also be interstate, so happy to help with a referral if you go that route for the $50 gift card.

    Cheers!

  • I am with Origin Energy and they have been great. I swapped after AGL basically f#@%ed me over for a disconnection fee on a contract I wasn't on. So I wouldn't recommend them. Seriously, ring up Origin and tell them what has happened with your current provider and ask them what deals they could offer you. They might even ask you "What would YOU like?" and if you tell them, they might agree. Give it a shot.

  • Thanks grov & todes, I was just looking at their prices and seems all providers now charging $40 something as joining fee which I don't like. I was with origin before my current provider . I can say they were ok but I m just searching is worth changing after paying all fees as also I m not on contract so termination should not b issue.

    • Ya as you can see on the spreadsheet, the connection and disconnection fees are what get ya….even more frustrating that in most cases the distributor doesn't even charge for connection fees, but the supplier/electricity company says they do, and thus charges a connection fee for 100% profit.

Nonetheless, I still found Red to be the cheapest even with the $63 connection fee here in NSW (Sydney).

Have you called around to compare connection fees, etc?

  • The cheapest I found in SA was with Lumo, however they only do electricity.

If you do happen to find cheaper they will beat it after you give them a call and tell them the offered rates (only found a cheaper deal once and that was one of those group buying site offers, which Lumo beat, and I do check quite regularly).
