Hi all,
I recently received an email from Click Energy regarding a price increase from January 2014. It seems very high. Does it apply to other electricity suppliers too?
I'm considering to change. Which one can you recommend?

Hey Fran, have not heard anything like this from Red….I know you are in Vic, but I threw together a spreadsheet comparing suppliers in NSW and you can view it at:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/126223
May give you an idea of who is cheaper in NSW and how that may relate to Vic, and also an idea of how you can compare companies in Vic. I know the Red referrals can also be interstate, so happy to help with a referral if you go that route for the gift card.
Cheers!
I think I go with Red Energy. If you like you can send me a referral link so we both get a gift card.
Prices are fixed until April 2014, then probably change again…
Sent you a PM, Fran. All the best and Happy Holidays!
Has anyone tried to put together a similar type of spreadsheet for Victoria?
I have, but it's oriented towards the Solar Premium Feed In Tariff.
Has anyone put together a spreadsheet for Queensland?
Also - friend of mine jut changed to Click in Q'l'd, because they are offering 54cents for every grid-feed kw produced by her solar installation. Presumably they are paying 10 cents in addition to government 44cents? Meanwhile they have charged at least one payment of $50 to establish her account. Which she does not totally understand, never having had to pay anything on her power bill since she got her initial installation…
At least you got an email! It was our first month with them and the rates changed from $0.26 to $0.295 for first 1020kWh, a not unexpected 13.46% increase, but after first 1020kWh the price went from $0.247 to $0.35 on the balance, a whopping 41.7% increase, and the fixed daily charge went from $0.80 to $1.15, a 43.75% hike.
This completely changes the structure of the plan and I'd be surprised if they are cheap for anyone now.
They used to have good tariffs with the generous 70c/kWh (Premium)feed in tariff.
However, their Pay on Time discount didn't apply if your account was in credit due to high level of solar generation. At least one other company does the right thing and gives you a POT discount on your usage and service charges, independently of any solar earnings.
Click's email pointed to their website which showed the 2014 tariff to be 24% higher and the daily service charge to be 65% higher…these combined with their POT methodology suddenly moved them from top choice to well down the list.
I have just received my latest invoice from them and the tariff is much worse than they had advised. Evidently the (link to the) tariff they advised me of in their 30/11 email was incorrect and my peak rates have increased by 56%, off peak by 27% and daily service by 92.5%.
I'm off to a higher authority because they had not notified me of these crazy increases and it is not fair for them to apply them without notice.
Wow! When we called the ombudsman we pointed out the the POT discount is in effect a disconnection charge as it is only credit on your next bill. Discussed this with Clickenergy and they agreed to apply the discount on the current bill.
Got the same letter from Energy Australia.. Maybe have a look a red energy
