  • How is this a bargain? Looks to be cheaper on eBay for overseas stock, and normal price for local stock.

Unless there's something to differentiate this particular one from the countless "SJ1000" units out there?

  • Hi ah, Quite a few on ebay are going for over $100 plus postage . its not in anyway different from other models. But given its a good value product I thought it might be of interest. Maybe not a huge bargain but i cannot see them much cheaper and I had a play with one the other day and thought its worth people seeing

    Thanks

Is there a camera that does not do this these days?

  • Fair point - this camera is more about the usability of it and the attachments for sports. Basically if a Go pro came of my surfboard or car and was gone forever..i'd be very upset - this one a little less so. And going by my driving and surfing thats quite likely to happen :-)

  • Reviewer says Wobbly crap mounts?

  • There is quite a bit on youtube - i posted one link above (not sure if it came thorugh) but there are more if you search on SJ1000 footage. Cheers

I bought one of these SJ1000 cameras from eBay about 2 weeks ago after reading the following review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QppW_0_DuiE - The best action camera under $100.

This is my fourth 'action cam' and suffers the same problem most of them do (except GoPro) - that is, their cr*ap attachments. The SJ1000 come with a large number of attachments for different uses but, in my opinion, most don't hold the camera steady enough. I've tried it using it as an automatic car camera using the suction holder on the windscreen - vibrated too much to make it useful; the same attaching it to my motorcycle - vibrates too much.

Maybe if you have a use where there is 'no action' then the SJ1000 represents reasonable value for money otherwise save up and buy a GoPro.

Also, I paid $99.98 including free delivery (sent from within Australia and fast) so this 'deal' is by no means a bargain!

    • Thanks for posting, that was valuable feedback for me. I was considering buying an SJ1000 for my motorcycle too, but vibration was one of my concerns.

Do you think the problem is primarily due to the cheap mount, rather than the camera itself? If so then would it be possible to buy a quality mount to replace the supplied one, and eliminate/reduce the vibration problem?

      • The camera is relatively heavy compared to the flimsy mounts thus making it nearly impossible to control movement. What makes the GoPro good are the GoPro brand mounts - expensive but good. Be aware there are now GoPro copies of mounts available and these may not be as good.

The SJ1000 mounts are similar to others but are still unique to the SJ1000. :(

As far as the SJ1000, my next step is try some of the other mounts they come with to find one for the bike (my main use) that is satisfactory. Might have to superglue a few mounts to make them less prone to shaking :)

  • Some good pricing there but please check the time on the free shipping though. If you want it before xmas then the price jumps to nearly $50 delivery on some of those. , Cheers
