Would this be the cheapest place for a 1st gen Microsoft Surface RT?
$434 w/Touch cover seems pretty good at the Microsoft Store.
I've checked JB and Hardly Normal in Adelaide and they don't have any stock left.

JB Hi-Fi was selling one with touch cover for $394 a month ago. While it's hard to find stock at cheaper price now, I would hate to spend more while knowing that it was cheaper before.

It's a good price right now - who knows what they'll do post-Xmas though. For what it's worth, I'm very happy with my 32GB model from the big special a fortnight back: these are great little tabs, especially with the Type 2 keyboard fitted.
I'd only be worried that it will become hard to find apps for it in a year or two. Less than a year from launch Microsoft have already pulled the plug on this particular chipset and relaunched it as the Surface 2 with a different ARM chipset. While it won't be hard for MS to keep releasing RT versions of all the Surface apps for the next year or two, I wouldn't count on it.
My (not reseached) understanding is MS have pushed C# for all 'RT' versions of apps, meaning they won't care if the chipset changes.
Having said that, RT is general is likely to kill off RT anyway (http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/nov/26/microsoft-…).
Find one with a Type cover instead imo.
Try Gumtree, I sold mine for 220 2 weeks ago, the hardware is pretty solid so U will be able to find one in good condition

If you like you can just find a 1st gen Surface without a touch cover and I can sell you mine if you like for $50, I don't need it as I have the 2nd gen cover now, no pressure.
