Ordinary K over at Whirlpool wrote a post about how to get Dell discount when ordering any system. It sounds pretty easy to follow. Doesn't hurt to try if you are thinking of buying from Dell.

    Great tip! Here is the short summary:

    1. Specify your dream machine on Dell's Website
    2. Tell Dell you're interested in buying your dream machine
    3. Tell Dell you want a discount
    4. Tell Dell how much discount you want
    5. Check Dell's counter offer against your requirements (Specification AND price)
    6. If happy, buy the machine

    Haggling works — however I think it will stop working once when too many people are getting deals this way.

    Oh. Don't forget about mentioning your other dream systems at Apple, HP and Lenovo and how you have to buy them if Dell won't approve the deal :)

    another way you can prompt them for a "deal" is to ask if its going on "special" soon, sort of a way for them to realise that you will wait until a deal comes through. Often I find that a sales person will volunteer a discount, because they know to make the sale they need to come down, and that if you wait for the deal in the future, its still going to cut into their margin and you might also find another brand/product while you wait, so they lose the sale. Finally it helps them save face etc
