[Battlefield 4] Graphics card question

My current kit is as follows:

i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz
12GB RAM
SAPPHIRE HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 PCIE on BF4

I'm running dual monitor but I'm only gaming on one of them. I'm quite sure that the frame drops which I'm receiving on BF4 (running it on low, averaging 50-80FPS) is due to the fact that my card is dated.

My question would be if I want to play this game on ultra with around 60-100 stable fps, would I need a GTX 770 2GB or 4GB variant?

Would any of you recommend that I wait? I've read on the forums that there's an expected price drop that'll be coming in soon.

  • What resolution? That is the most important question, particularly when it comes to memory usage.

    • 1920 x 1080

To get minimum 60 FPS you would need a 780/290X. 770 would average 60.

note that the 690 shown there only has 2GB per GPU, and it still gets min FPS of 73, so that isn't an issue.

        • This is on beta, though. Wouldn't there be differences in FPS and gameplay since the release of the game?

        • Not much, this benchmark is lower (even accounting for slightly higher resolution).

        • Do you think the 780 will drop in price anytime soon? I'm not in a rush to purchase a card, I just want to get educated before I do anything.

        • Nope. News cards have come out, market has settled. I expect only minor shifts for the next 6 months at least.

Personally I'd get the 280X (or 770 if you prefer) and run with lower AA.

        • So 770 for an average of 60 FPS, I'd be able to run it on ultra minus a few of the higher quality tweaks (AA).

And again, whether or not I purchase 2GB or 4GB makes no difference because of my current setup?

        • Yep. At 1080 you only need 2G for current games. This is unlikely to change (unless you get a higher res monitor).

        • Thanks for sticking through all the questions Bruce, you've cleared a lot of things up for me.
