Need to buy whiskey for my father in law and was looking at spending around $80.
I have no idea what type of whiskey he enjoys so any suggestions would be appreciated.
Are there any bargains on at the moment?
Thanks.

single malt: bushmills 10yo
blended: chivas 18yo
You need to find out what he drinks.. not necessarily to buy a direct replacement brand+age, but to work out what flavour characteristics he likes.
Have a sneak peek at their liquor cabinet.

Good price and great single malt…
+1 for the last post. Ardbeg mentioned above is also a very nice drop if you like a peaty Islay type whiskey

BTW there is a difference between whiskey and whisky.
And there are as many differences between single malts of whisky as there are between whiskey and whisky.
Personally, I'd go for Bunnahabhain, but its VERY much a personal taste.
