What should I do with my old laptop?

Hey guys I've got an old laptop with a functional screen, no keyboard, 2GB DDR2 RAM, old pentium CPU, no HDD cover but I can put a 320GB HDD in it and tape it in there. What should I do with it? I've got a PS3 for Netflix and a Wii U set up for Plex and I've also already got a decent desktop, a decent laptop, an iPad, a Samsung Tab 2 and iPod.

I was thinking I could use it as a server of some kind, but I can't think what I would put on it. I'm more than happy with google drive and I'm pretty sure that I couldn't use it to mine bitcoins as it would use more electricity dollars than it would mine. Anyone got any ideas?

  • How does a laptop have no keyboard? :P

I'd say just keep it around as a backup laptop, sometimes it might come in handy when your system goes poof and you need a computer to use for a few days or when you need to go overseas to a less than secure location and you don't want to take your shiny new laptop with you…etc.

Apart from that you could use it as a server like you said - maybe a file server, but I doubt a laptop would be good for that unless it has USB 3 (which it won't if it uses DDR2). I guess you could use it as a web server though, if ever wanted to host your own website.

    • The keyboard was literally removed by previous owner. I wouldn't mind hosting own website but I don't know how to direct my domain (ronlund.net) to my IP.

Sell it off for like $10 bucks.

      Haha. That's what I did :)

I'd rather keep it just in case I need a backup computer rather than get $10 for it :P

  • never repair it with someone who claims to be a geek without being a proper tech.

  • I fix up old pc's and give them away to kids for school. Put edu/linux on it for them or dual boot xp if it has a licence and i then have no support issues or avirus problems

  • i had a Sony Vaio, was absolutely perfect just old tech… so I go my screwdriver and skull fucked it to death…. was quite enjoyable :D
