Nappies - What price to pay?

What is a good price to pay per nappy? Do they change with size or are they usually constant? Toys R Us has them for about 28 cents each now, is that any good?

Price per nappy changes depending on the nappy size and brand. Huggies are normally about $30 - $35 / box, Aldi is $11.50 for their packs (although with less nappies), and obviously the bigger the nappy, the less in the pack.

e.g. Aldi newborns are about $0.18, and the biggest size is $0.26. There is something like 60 in the newborn pack, and something like 40 in the biggest size.. The concept is the same for all brands.

If you are looking to get nappies for a new kid, then might I suggest Aldi? It's much more economical than Huggies, and not a crap product (lol) like the other house brands. But like any baby products, discussion on competing products can eaily turn into a flame war between militant mummies (and daddies on the rare occasion) - so tread carefully!

  • Thanks, I heard Aldi is good but, as you said, most people say get Huggies. Are they much more expensive per nappy?

      About 2/3 more I think…

  • I've found huggies leak, not as much as baby love, but still enough. The best I've found are Japanese nappies. I can only assume that Australian nappies only exist for the same reason that Australian chocolate does -that people haven't tried the oversees alternatives, because if they had they would not look back.

We use sealers brand for the daytime, and merries brand or goon pants for the nighttime, and the cheapest place is bestnappies.com.au - only downside is you have spend more than $100 for free delivery. Oh and get the ones made in Taiwan not Japan, that way there are no worries about radiation. Anyway we've been very happy with these, it's cheaper than huggies and almost no leaks, and it's delivered to your door. Just my 2 cents.

  • We use 2 or 3 brands, depends on the 'situation'. Huggies at night or for longer period (e.g. going out). Babylove and Aldi for 'normal' use. Sometimes, I know my baby is due for a poo, then I would put a 'cheapie' on (ie Babylove or Aldi).
Only buy nappies when they are on special, a big box of Huggies usually less than $30 when they are on special at Coles/Woolies/BigW.

  • We use Aldi nappies most of the time. Occasionally I can get cheaper generic brands by taking advantage of sales plus loyalty bonuses but the best I have gotten large nappies for is about 24 cents. The 26 cent price above for large nappies is about the best I've seen.

I've tried Huggies but I've found they are smaller than other brands. For example if the nappy box said 11-15kg then when you get to about 13 or 14kg the nappies are too small. I haven't had this problem with other brands of nappies.

Aldi occasionally sell nappies in boxes and these work out to about 25 cents for the largest size nappy.

I haven't had any quality problems with the Aldi nappies. I've actually had the most quality problems with some of the brand name nappies. I once had an ongoing quality problem with some Dymples(big W) nappies but ended up getting one or two free boxes as compensation.

I guess everyones results will vary as far as quality and price go.
