It's a budget Note. Price is OK but the specs are rather poor including a very low res screen and an outdated CPU. That said you do get bang for your buck if you're not a tech junkie and can overlook it's shortcomings.

    • What are the shortcomings? Would you consider this an upgrade for an iPhone 4 user?

That may help. Basically screen resolution is very similar though the Mega screen is way bigger. Battery is much bigger on Mega, Mega also has features such as DLNA and triple the RAM of the iPhone 4. IPhone is 2010 tech, Mega is more like 2012 tech with some new features like BT 4.0 as well.

I'd go with the Mega over a 4 tbh but that's my opinion.

        • Are you seriously directly comparing the amount of RAM on an iOS device and an Android?

The 5S only got 1GB, does that mean the 1.5GB on the Mega means its better?

Different OS manages its ram usage differently, and iOS does do better on the RAM front.

        • RAM is a major issue on old iOS devices, biggest cause of app crashes. The iPhone 4 has major limitations cause of this

I am not saying Ram is not an issue in older iOS devices. What I am saying is that you can't directly compare the amount of ram in an iOS device with an Android device, and extrapolate device performance from it

iPhone 4 had RAM issues with 512mb

Android devices can have issues with less than 1GB or RAM (The MEGA 5.8 has 1.5GB of RAM)

I think it's fair to say that having triple the RAM is an advantage I was right to point out. If you were to compare the MEGA to an iPhone 5 it would be a different story but we're not so I don't understand what you're getting worked up about.

Man, 720P is a very low res screen now? My laptop is still 1366x768……

A 720P on a 6.3inch is good enough for most, and has a respectable 233dpi. But I think you forgot to mention the key selling point of these second tier/mid range devices. DUAL SIM. Which makes it attractive for tech junkies looking for it.

Personally, I am waiting for the Dual Sim Moto G.

The MEGA doesn't have a 720p screen, not as far as I've seen anyway. 1280x720 is 720p the MEGA screen is 540x960. Also this is a 5.8" ( not 6.3") screen and only has a PDi of 190, not 230. Also the MEGA 5.8 has a TFT screen, not an AMOLED or even LCD. I think you're getting mixed up the the MEGA 6.3?

        http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Samsung-Galaxy-Mega…

Actually I never considered the TFT screen before, not sure if I would touch a phone with a TFT screen.

My mistake. Saw the 6.3 Mega instore and was pretty impressed. If its the 5.8, then this is way overpriced.

      • +1 on 5.8's dual SIM feature.

The 6.3 isn't dual SIM, in model at Logan, however.

      S+H can be ~ $20 with Logan.

Wait for -faster- LG Nexus 5

No need to carry ipad and iPhone! With fraction of price too!!

    • iPhone has disadvantage of small screen

  • +2

my parents love the big screen on the 6.3 mega, recommended !

  • Pretty cool but remember this will not fit in most pants pockets. If you do fit them into your jeans front pockets, don't sit down while wearing it unless you want it in two pieces!
    Dimensions 16.3 x 8.2 x 0.9cm

Dual sim is a great feature you don't get often as well and this actually has Telstra 850Mhz which is even rarer for dual sim.

    Mega 6.3 >>>>>> 5.8

Its not simply a screen size difference, the 6.3 is a much higher quality/specced model for $50 extra, if you want a 5.8" phone dont get the Mega. The 6.3 is great though.

  • I have this phone awesome. Turn on Powersave and it's a great work phone. Resolution is great, camera awesome and although in the beginning it felt odd and big, now that I am used to it, I love it.

Enough not to throw it down the corridor when the Networking team says…"Give me the ticket number….I don't care if the customer is down" :-)

  • Was $352 incl shipping (or did we have a $20 voucher, after Logan couldn't supply another phone, at low advertised price?) when we bought it.

Today, i'm sure i'd wait for the much -faster- LG Nexus 5's to drop, as earlier promised by Logan's web site, despite both phones having pretty average looking battery spec's.

I'd look at the Mega 6.3 for better battery life, but - w/ larger screen - maybe its higher battery mAH rating may be needed to match Mega 5.8's battery life.

Anyone know about that (for Mega 6.3)?

After reading about Logan now in not only this thread but also the other S3 thread I have came to the following conclusion. Some of you people need to add Kogan to your phone's auto correct.
