My mum as an old computer and she is looking at getting something newer, we are hoping Ozbargain can suggest a deal, she doesn't need the best, as she only uses it for emails and internet, she has broadband with Telstra, but her computer is not able to load lots of stuff as it is ancient.. :-) Secondhand would do her as the cheaper the better, and it could be a laptop, please suggest thanks

Ok what a good idea I have just signed up to the Gosford area an am hoping to get something soon.
If you have no luck there and can find a recycling centre nearby, you can usually find a working PC with monitor keyboard and mouse for $50/$60.
Install Linux on the machine (it's incredibly easy to do).
It will make is more secure and improve performance.
Ubuntu's default Unity interface is hated by many, but is very easy to use.Going down the same freecycle path as greenpossum suggested: your town/city or suburb might have a buy, sell & swap group on facebook, join it and keep your eyes open… it's amazing what people will sell and for how little — especially since it's near Christmas.
Good luck :)

If you're looking for something brand new with wty then $342 will get you a ChromeBook.
No messing about with viruses, quick and simple and gets the job done.
You could post a request on freecycle, sometimes people are willing to give away older machines.
