Website construction and hosting

Hi All,
I am planning to build a website that will host lectures and conferences across the world. it will be simple in design and each page will have some tags such as month, country etc.

my question is, can i construct this using the webpage construction tools given w/ for eg godaddy, crazydomains.
also what would be the best site to use for construction and hosting as there seems to be so many out there.

im tech savy but not programming wise - with these tools can this be done with obivously extra time.

    Most would advise against going with godaddy or crazy domains. Check out the whirlpool forums for many negative reviews of their hosting services.

    You may want to check out Moodle: https://moodle.org/ which is a solid open source (free) web app for online learning businesses. You might be able to make do with it but you're probably best off paying a web designer to do up a web app for you if you no programming skills.

    Try using Wordpress with Hostgator or Media Temple

      I would suggest Wordpress as well because you can use plugin to include media like
      * Youtube Vimeo - for conference video
      * Slideshare - for slideshow

      Also tagging can be easily done. It might be worthwhile to consider a mobile friendly HTML5 design template, so that your site looks nice on portable devices too.

        If you're hosting content elsewhere and just embedding on your site (e.g. links to YouTube vids etc.) then you may be able to get by with free OpenShift hosting.

        You only get 1GB of storage in their free tier but that's quite a lot really if you take video out of the mix. My brother set up a Wordpress site on there for his girlfriend's photography business which looks great (IMO).

        (You can always improve speed and bandwidth by using Cloudflare as a CDN in front of your site if you need to once you're established. Or move to one of their paid plans / migrate to a new Wordpress host etc. etc.).
