really good price, but i would look at
    http://www.shavershop.com.au/online-store/oral-care/electric…

its the same price and i have used both (im a dentist) and prefer the new colgate motion. cost price for the a1500 for me is 140….so really good price. either way both are 99 and great for the price.

    • cost price for the a1500 for me is 140

That's because you do not have the same buying power as the saver shop.

Thanks for the quick review :P

Now post some cheap backyard dentist deals.

My ongoing concern is that replacement heads for the Colgate are more than twice the price of the Oral-B when bought in bulk

      • goog point, i havent even looked at that yet as this is a new product (2 months). i might have to hit up colgate for some good deals.

    • Seeing as you're a dentist, maybe you can give more insight to why you prefer the Colgate?

      • +3

well its more of a personal preference. i bought the oral b many yrs ago (top of the line back then) and after a few months it sat in the bottom of the draw. i got the colgate 2-3 months ago now and really enjoy the clean it gives.

both of them the oral b and the colgate will clean your teeth very well. its your preference if you prefer oscillation or sonic motion. i prefer the sonic motion and the bristles are very soft.

Is that why we can't see your face.

  • I have 2 of this model and I am not happy with the battery capacity. It slows down after 4 brushes and needs recharging after 8 brushes. The charging process is also very slow, it takes 14hrs to fully charge.

    • I'd have to disagree with this claim - I bought a 4000 around 6months ago, and I just got back from 10 day holiday with my other half - we used it 2mins morning/night each and didnt charge it the whole time (forgot the charger base) and it still held charge the entire trip.

Yes, it does take forever to charge - but I dont see this as an issue as I dont need a quick recharge.

Excellent unit - we got it at $99 back then too. Couldnt recommend more.

  • I've been using the PC1000 for a year or two now, ripper bit of gear. Don't bother with any of the heads that are designed to whiten, or tongue clean or any of that malarkey. You can import heads for cheap off eBay (though they don't seem to be quite as high quality as the locally bought ones - the head wobbles more, which opens a small gap you can catch your tongue or inner cheek with, which doesn't hurt mind you).

One unit can service as many people in your house as you need, just keep a cup with the heads nearby and each person can swap their head in and out as needed.

Battery life is fine. We don't have a power outlet in our 1950's bathroom, so the unit is put on the charger base every other night in the bedroom. That way it's plenty charged at all times with plenty of power to go around. The 2min timer is a neat feature - it merely pulses each 30 seconds, to serve as a reminder that you've probably spent enough time on that part of your mouth and to move on.

At half price this is great. Combine with it a water flosser and your future dental visits will be far more pleasant!

    • Any recommendations for a water flosser?

        The Waterpik WP100

        http://www.shavershop.com.au/online-store/oral-care/oral-irr…

You will NEVER EVER go back to manual flossing again. It's the best I've ever used. Feels like as if you just finished visiting a dentist after ever floss.

Note Amazon do sell this unit ALOT cheaper, but then the voltage is different too. So you have to get the local version or else get a step down transformer for the US version.

Good deal on the Oral B 4000 as well. I've got the 5000 dual handle version since I don't need to constantly change the brush when using it with my wife. Two handles better than one. :D

Temjin's recommendation above is spot on, but as I mentioned above, we don't have power outlets in our bathroom (yet), so I've got the cordless WP450 (can be had for ~$120 from HN or similar with minimal haggling). It's great.

My only tip? Use luke warm water, not cold!

    • What happens if you brush for more than 2 mins? Is it bad for your teeth? I found 2 mins is not long enough. I wanted to be extra thorough.

      • I got this toothbrush a few weeks ago for the same price (if I'd known it was a true bargain I'd of posted the deal weeks ago! :-P) and it briefly stops every 30 seconds so you can change location, once the 2 mins is up it beeps 3 times and pauses for slightly longer, but then continues.

I brush my teeth using the timer, then spend the final 30 seconds after the 2 minute timer has finished to do the outside of all my teeth and my tongue. But I know what you mean, 2 minutes really doesn't feel long at all!

Also buy it off their eBay store for free shipping as opposed to $10 on their store.
