Canon Selphy CP-900 Compact Photo Printer $65 Pickup / + Del

90

Was about to order this nifty little printer from Amazon when I thought I'd check to see how cheap I can get it local. I was stunned to find that Hardley Normal had it even cheaper than Amazon even without shipping… I never though I'd post a deal from HN and after being burned before with a deal that actually had no stock (which did not stop them from holding my money for a few months before actually supplying the product) I decided to wait until I got confirmation the item is in stock and ready to be picked up.

Still checking where to get paper and ink the cheapest.
Cheapest ink and paper refills I found is from IT Spot:

EDIT: Sorry, Megabuy is cheaper, see comment below!

$28.9 a pop + $15.95 delivery to WA. I got x2 and it ended up being $72.75 through bank deposit (for 216 photos - 33c each).

  • I bought this not too long ago for 99 and had to pricematch at HN with Teds Cameras. Damnit! haha maybe i should buy a backup printer.
EDIT: Also just a warning. It's not supported on Win 8 you have to do a work around to get it working. I'll try to find the link for anyone wanting to get this.

I only got it working through installing the software provided under compatibility mode but feel free to attempt it with just the driver.

    • Are these worth it? How many prints would you say you could get out of one ink cartridge?

      Is this the latest model?

      • Yes its the latest model, none of the company seem interested in updating the product line.
A refill of paper+ink for 108 pictures will set you back around $30 online + shipping (which can be another $10-15!). I plan on ordering in bulk to save on shipping. From all accounts printing quality is outstanding. So "is this worth it" really depends on you and the value you put on being able to print out pics instantly etc.

      • +1

The Paper and the ink run out at the same time. I like the prints it gives. Dries instantly so you don't have to worry about picking it up too soon or anything like that. The only downside (which doesn't really bother me) is that you have to use Original Canon ink and paper (that i know of) But the fact that I know exactly when I'm going to run out of both is quite handy.

It works out to be about 40c a print or so if you buy retail.

At 65$ I would recommend it.

        • Nice. Thanks for the advice. I was actually thinking of using it for photobooth purposes at events so hopefully it'll run cheaper than a normal printer in the end.

Are refills still being made readily available or does it seem like this will be paperweight by the end of next year?

        • Readily available (google "Canon KP 108in")

        • Yeah that's what I use mine for! It's good for that. About 30 second print though so try to time your groups so that there isn't too many waiting around at the same time haha.

        • So mind telling me what sort of photobooth set up you have (out of curiosity)

And if it's a smaller type of set up are you still able to stand up against the bigger photobooth companies that charge an arm and a leg?

  • Not sure if this is the same, slightly smaller photo size as the older one I have from quite a few years back. If it comes with the battery, could be fun bringing it to parties, weddings, functions to just print right there and then for folks to take home.

    • The Battery is sold separate for about 100$ last i checked anyway.

    • Battery is $$$ but most parties would still have a power socket somewhere!

  • Does anyone know how much paper/ink these come with? Or will I have to buy a refill pack straight away?

    • Not much from what I've been reading :-(

  • Updated description with best ink+paper refills I managed to find.

  • Thanks OP, got one of the printers as it seems a convenient, easy to use unit. However reading through the reviews in amazon for the kp108 ink/paper set

"I have had my Selphy for 2 years now and overall it is a handy printer. However, what people need to know is that every time you turn the unit off and turn it back on, it loads the ink for one picture. That is, you lose that ink and your ink to paper ratio gets off over time. You eventually start running out of ink before you run out of paper. I called Cannon to find out what was happening-that I was accumulating tons of paper but running out of ink. They informed me that the machine does this and I should leave the unit on (print as many photos as possible in one sitting) if I am to not waste ink. Right now I have tons of paper that will probubly never get used because cannon will not sell ink apart from paper. Very Wasteful! FYI "

Anyone experience this whilst printing? Probably not in a photobootj situation where a lot of continuous printing is done but for home printing of a single photo every few days it may crop up:)

    • Thanks for the heads up! what morons!
