I have just become aware of the concept of a foodbank. I understand that you need to hold a centrelink benefit and a healthcare card to be eligible but I can't find any further information about 'shopping' at a foodbank here in Sydney.

Your local centrelink office usually will have a list. My local council has a booklet about free or cheap meals/food in the area. It is amazing how much is out there. Maybe check with the council community liaison officer if they don't have something they'd know where to start.
Contact your local Salvation Army or St Vincent Depaul, they will give you all the information needed. Mission Australia also provide these services. They do an amazing job!
