  • What's the intended usage? its important to determine the level of graphics card required (not measured by memory), since this will dictate the weight/size/model?

my preferred place is dell outlet: http://www.dell.com/learn/au/en/audhs1/campaigns/dell-outlet…

search through the vostro or latitude (or inspiron i suppose), to see if anything meets your requirements and email them if interested.

  • Hey man. Assuming by the graphics card you're wanting to do a bit of gaming?? I'm looking for a casual gaming laptop myself with at least an i5 and whilst the centrecom deal does have a graphics card it won't really help you out (thinking it would be comparable to the newer 4600 Integrated graphic cards in terms of performance).

The lenovo deal is a pretty good prii from my research but I'm of the thinking that any laptop worth it's salt should has a full HD resolution. THat's what I'm holding out for. Of course that comes at a price….

If you're like me in wanting a casual gaming computer for the best price I think you can get a bargain but I think they're going to be coming closer to Christmas/after new year and once the new imac's make their way into the market. Until then I rate this as one of the better laptop review sites that has a lot of models we humble Australians get access to.

Subscribe to the shopping express newsletter as well. Know one of these days the laptop of the day spech is going to be the one for me!!

    Hope this kinda helps.

    Cheers,

    • Also be careful of battery life as well. What looks good on paper at the right price can often be let down by a rubbish battery. Another reason to really do your research before buying anything!!

  • Thanks guys…usage is for home only and very limited gaming. I am bit confused about if I should require separate memory for graphics or not as I am rarely gona used gaming…..

are u suggesting that having dedicated graphics memory is not that good….

    • Any idea what games? Dedicated graphics is not worth it if you're not going to use it. Uses slightly more battery, makes it warmer and raises the price.

After that the choices come down to what resolution screen you prefer. If you don't care about FHD, I'm finding the Acer v5-573 to be quite good for the price (provided it's cashback deal is still running). If you care about a FHD screen then that limits your options

      • thanks for that. It' very possible that it might not b used for gaming whatsoever. I always thought dedicated graphics memory is always better to have than Intel HD Graphics, integrated VGA.

From the other forum this is what I found, it looks good deal..may be this what you suggested http://msy.com.au/images/banners/acer3.gif vs http://www.dicksmith.com.au/laptops-notebooks/acer-aspire-v5…

Is it right to assume that 4th Gen is better than 3rd Gen…..

        • Much better battery life. I find that the Intel graphics for 4th Gen are ok, I can run most old games fine. I haven't tested anything recent on it (other than strategy games) so I can't tell you how it goes. The MSY link is the one I was talking about. Temporarily out of stock at Dick Smith http://www.dicksmith.com.au/laptops-notebooks/acer-aspire-v5…. If you can get it from them it will be cheaper than MSY after cashback, none of the other major stores sell it though. It's been on special before, mentioned twice on ozbargain at least
A higher resolution screen would be better but that costs more. I find the resolution makes it hard to read some webpages when opened up to half the screen (such as reddit and other websites). I use it for university mostly and it works well for that.
