Just wondering if there's any point in waiting until the christmas/post christmas sales to get a deal on a wii u or not.
What chance is there of getting a Wii U for less than $300, $250?

Didn't target have a basic with extra crap for 250 a few weeks ago?
You might need to consider 400 with $100 dollars worth of games/extra crap thrown in if your looking for a pro.$229 accidental price. $299 was the actual deal price.
Basic was <200, I got premium for $214 or so. It was during DSE 50% off sale, which is still active in some stores.
However, if you're in a capital city it'll probably be blind luck if you manage to get one at this point. Also the chances of a price reduction are high, however very low that it'd be 50% off again.
DSE were getting rid of them, wasn't just a sale. Real unlikely you will find one.
Kmart will have the Just Dance bundle for $279 starting on the 5th. Seems like the cheapest deal going around at the moment.
If you have an external hard drive handy I'd recommend going for the Basic model these days given the price difference between the Basic and the Premium. With the downloads, patches, save files and updates that seem to come along with every game the 32GB of the Premuim is unlikely to be sufficient storage space anyway so you're likely to need to add a hard drive eventually no matter which model you buy (though with the Basic you'll need that hard drive pretty much from day 1, especially if you want the current free Wii Fit U download).
Perhaps if you buy from Amazon (you'll be buying American games if you do that)…but local retailers, most likely not. I don't forsee a Dick Smith style clearance anytime soon.
