I wonder if this is the start of a fire sale if true?
I would hold off on this unless you need it :)
fud, that women seems to be sheltered to what is going on, MS has a lot more than 3 operating systems and Windows RT is basically just Windows 8 for a different architecture CPU, nothing too different to what has ALWAYS being going on with Windows OS…
RT/ARM is essential for MS if they want the tablet space, Windows ARM is not going away however they will most likely try to unify Windows Phone/RT which might mean we start seeing cool features like a desktop on our mobile phones that can be beamed to a monitor
RT was a quick fix for MS to compete with the battery life of IOS/Android. It was a race for either arm to increase processing power or for intel to reduce power draw. Marketing was bad, no good apps were available on release which left consumers confused on what the OS is really for.
Remote desktop is nothing new. Been around a looong time, even on android/ios. WiDi will become more popular as soon as the AC standard of WiFi becomes well adopted. I wouldn't hold my breath though, resolution war just started and that's not going to help with wireless displays.
RT was DOA.
Unless $99 like HP Touchpad.
Well intel did say they're targeting $99 tablets sooo…
So even $99 not worth to buy :p
Windows RT as a name may disappear, but there should be a pretty strong effort to unify Windows Phone and Windows RT apps. There are nearly 200,000 apps on Windows Phone which could serve quite well to run on RT. Not all are suited to a tablet form factor, but with increasing resolutions on the phone now matching the Surface Pro, it should change.
The truth is Windows 8 x86 with new Intel chips are getting very close to best of both worlds (battery life and app support) but they're still around the $500 mark (with Office). For between $300 (used) and $400 (new) you can get a Clover Trail x86 Windows 8 tablet but the build quality doesn't get close to the Surface.
MS didnt hint of that at all, infact its the opposite. Mobile processors eg Snapdragon 800(found in mobile phones)are powerful enough to run Windows RT. Eg Nokia 1520 uses the same processor as the Nokia 2520. One rus WP8, the other RT. More likely they will have RT running on your mobile phone. The power of running Windows APPS in your hand!
Same as Harvey Norman.

A bit confused with the photo posted here with cover.
Maybe a deal on the pro version might 'surface' soon.
Friends don't let friends buy an RT device.
The only person I know that owns an RT device purchased it by mistake, thinking that they could run 'normal' Windows programs on there.
As per the article grog linked, they really shouldn't have included Windows in the name- just confuses people.
Be nice if they had they touch cover for another $100.
$66 at Harvey Norman: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/microsoft-surface-touch-cover…
Wait for the Pro drops.
7.5% cashback at Starthere (9% for founders)… probably gives this a bit of an edge over HN.
Edit: bugger. Only 1 - 1.5% for Surface.
quibble have 6.4%
Nice one.
Not a bad deal but too bad the Surface RT sucks.
Imagine if Apple discounted last years model iPad for $229? Or even the iPad 3? Or even the iPad 2?
They would be swamped.
They would probably even sell a few iPad 1s for $229.
Apple is probably the only company that can increase sales by increasing or decreasing prices.
You can either;
- join the fad at a lowered cost
- attach the price tag of your phone to your self-worth and just frown upon everyone for being cheap
Win win for Apple.
It's discounted because of the American "Black Friday" sales an annual event that occurs on the last Friday of November I believe. The same reason Apple is having a 'special' sale on at the moment and any other American companies will most likely have a few sales on right now.
American's just don't get the rest of the world does not have these 'Black Friday' sales so we get the discounts with no explination as to why.
Nah, the Surface RT is a turkey.
MS is dumping them at super low prices and I think this is not the bottom.
Windows RT is dead really, Bay Trail killed it. When you have a chip that's more powerful than the Tegra 4, consumes a comparable amount of power and is x86 compatible, ARM is going to be in a bit of trouble.
The thing with ARM is that they've been milking the fact that Intel hasn't been able to produce a low power SOC for the past few years. Given that Intel is going to be releasing x86 Atoms for tablets as well as phones and that Android is x86 compatible, ARM's market share will be affected by Intel's presence given Intel's muscle and ability to mass produce silicon.
But in all honesty, if you want a cheap tablet to surf the net, watch videos, listen to music and view pictures on, you can't get a better 10" tablet for $230, Office is a bonus as well, so you can work on your documents on the go.
