Hi guys,
Has anyone ever made a global patent on an idea/invention? I have no idea where to start and I would like to log/patent all my ideas in one place.
If so, how do I go about it?
Thanks in advance.

No such thing. You have to patent in all the jurisdictions you are interested in.
Correct, with the clarification that jurisdictions of 'interest' is usually defined by market size/expected sales, jurisdictions where infringing knock-offs of your invention are likely to be manufactured, places where there is a market and patent rights are cheaply and quickly obtained.
Start by getting legal advice. This is a very complicated issue and most of the time you will find it far to expensive to partake unless you are running a successful business.
If your invention has merit you will probably need significant investment to make this step.
Post your invention here, I'll let you know if it can be patented. I won't steal it, I promise!
I've signed patent forms before. One company I used to work with wanted to patent something I had a hand in, what they did was filed patent in multiple countries throughout the globe. So they had their lawyers do it, probably specializing in this kind of stuff. I had to put my paw print on a stack of documents from different countries. Sadly, I got nothing out of it.
I did have my name on a patent from IBM in the U.S. years ago as well. I got checks (back when checks were the main form of payment) from them for a couple years, not a lot - a couple hundred bucks.
thats interesting.. what did you do for them
Hey,
Many thanks for all the replies. I did some research on google on got various information from forums which was sometime contradictory.
Never take legal advice from google/forums. It's always going to be contradictory, given by non-lawyers or law students.
I think the point you are missing is that the patent system is a very complicated set of laws, which is made worse be the international problems. You need an IP lawyer.
Not an IP Lawyer. The correct professional is a Patent Attorney.
Best lawyer if consult would be slaughter and gorden
Please do some research before posting here as there is no such thing as a global patent.
Have you done a google search for your invention to confirm that it appears to be new?
Have you looked at a specialised free patent search engine such as patentlens ( http://www.patentlens.net/ ) ?
Do you have a few $100K lying around and a few years of your life to throw at the invention?
The best thing to do would be to visit your local patent attorney firm. Many offer a free initial consultation so ask if that firm offers it when you call up. Some of the links below will provide a list of attorneys/firms
