Good backup tool to use in Windows 7

… because the Windows 7 backup tool is just not enough.

Preferably free. Also I'm fussy about my file's creation and modification times, so those details need to stay intact after a restore.

  • I use Create Synchronicity.. Open source and free. It'll preserve Date Modified timestamps but not Date created metadata.

I suspect there may be other backup apps available that preserve time stamp and file metadata but since I prefer not to pay I've only tried the free ones.

Also check out Macrium reflect (free ver).

  • I've been using FBackup for a few years now and found it's simplicity to be perfect for my needs. You can set it to create an exact mirror, or to keep a zip file up to date. I personally have mine set to scheduled and to an SD card in my laptop. Perfect for non-commercial/confidential data which I would hate to have to rewrite if I lost.

  • What's wrong with the backup and image program already on win7?
