Good deals there. Anyone bought from these guys before?

  • Cheers OP. Prices seem fairly good to me, just emailed them about a E530. Just need a knock about lappy.

      For porno, Jim?

      • +69

people use them for other things?

        • nvm, lol.

        • what if i dont want to?

  • Dell Latitude E5410
    Max Resolution 1280 x 800 ( WXGA )

    :(

    http://www.cnet.com/laptops/dell-latitude-e5410-14/4505-3121…

    • Dell usually provides options for their laptops, so worth checking tge specs of each unit if possible

  • +2

    The Lenovo looks nice… :O

  • Like the prices so how do you buy from these guys? do you email and then wait for them to reply? or is there a quicker way?

    • +17

I emailed them. not much else I can do outside of business hours.

is it wrong I'm not expecting my order to be fulfilled just because it's a lenovo?

      • +21

        Never forget.

  • Dell Latitude E5410 $130 - not bad

    • Its a 3 year old laptop. The E530 would be around 1 year old, the extra 120 will be worth it.

      • +1

        i dont think so… you're paying 95% more

are you get 95% more capacity or speed?

        also 14" 1,400 x 900 is a drawcard for me

        • +3

yes. it's a 3 year laptop, speed is not the only issue. the screen and battery would be near end of its life cycle

        • +2

Screens have a life cycle? I've got a 4 year old laptop still going strong. I've replaced the battery once which cost me $25.
I'm guessing the replacement of these laptops are also around that much off ebay

        • Screens have a life cycle?

Yes. newer LED screens usually has a longer lifetime of around 10 years after which they lose their brightness

  • +1

Had an E5410 as my work machine in my last job. Nice little machine when you need something portable. Resolution isn't the best, but the build quality is pretty decent.

  • The main question is: are these guys just selling faulty units or ones that have come out from warranty i.e. 3year lifecycle?

  • +10

Back away from the Lenovo. I work for one of the Big 4 banks and you would not believe the amount of issues we have had with Lenovo since they have been deployed. Staff are requesting redeployed older Dells when the hear they are getting Lenovos

    • +5

I used to work for Citibank sometime back and Lenovos were horrendous with their QC. That was maybe 6 years ago.

I've tried multiple times to warn ozb fellas, but got tonnes of down votes with everyone saying "It's built like a tank". My ass it is. When IBM was in charge, yes. Not after it got sold off.

The failure rate I was experiencing was 1 in every 4/5 laptops would have some sort of issue out of the box.

      • Yeah heh … and then the people who say "i had such and such and no issues/horrible issues" get voted up even though they have a sample size of one. Human nature is a strange of not at all rational thing ;)

      • You've got to get the right models. The ideapads, the thinkpad edges are all shit. The real thinkpads are the x, t, and w series, and they are solid laptops.

        • I was deploying the X and T series only.

So no. They are not as solid as you think they are.

    • +2

Interesting got my step-dad one of the e530s a year or two back and he's very happy with it. No issues to speak of. That said I'd never use one personally as it's big heavy and doesn't have a whole lot of power.

      • As long as it works, great. I guess statistically some of them have to.
It's when you need something fixed that you'll find out why there's such a long thread on whirlpool about them. I just wish I'd seen it before I bought mine recently.
I've had a helluva time trying to get something done about returning it, but that's a long story.
Anyone considering Lenovo should probably check this thread first:
        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1996210

      • yeah I must admit, I'm always bemused when people recommend these "thinkpads". They're big, heavy and ugly, and they've got that little red dot. Oh and I forgot about the horrible lid.

        I think they are awful.

        • +1

It all comes down to the age old question of Practical VS Stylish.

If you get the right Thinkpad, it may look like a thin square box which is ugly, but if you drop it from around 1-1.5m it won't have a dint in it, and will still work perfectly.

If you get a super stylish thin a$$ laptop, it may look awesome, but try dropping it from 1-1.5m and see it smash into pieces with a few components not working here and there.

        • Unfortunately the ThinkPad EDGE series is neither stylish nor rugged. Cheap though :)

        • Geez I hate that little red dot. The "g spot" some people call it, cuz its next to the g. I hate them.

        • Hah yeah. My Vaio S premium leaves the think-pad for dead in almost every aspect but even with the magnesium chassis I don't think it would stand a chance against the thinkpad in a drop test

  • +1

Do these come with power adapters?

  • +2

Considering the WXGA projector but the lamp would probably need replacing and they are not cheap.

Also uses the older filament opposed to LED so power use would be pretty high (270w).

Actually I think it would be cheaper over a year to spend a fair bit more on a new LED projector than it would be to get this 2nd hand.

On the other hand the laptop deals are fantastic. Should make a nice render box on the i7.

  • Which of the laptops here is best for hackintosh?

  • +3

Which one of these could I use to run an Xbox One emulator?

    • +7

      The Xbox One

    • +4

All of these are waaaaaay to overpowered for Xbox One emulators. You could run it on an old celeron/athlon at 120fps with onboard graphics easily.

      • You what …

      • Okay. I guess I'll have to buy three of them to emulate a Wii U then…

      • +2

        and a flux capacitor

      • Not sure if trolling or just that stupid

  • +21

    FYI re CPUs

    i5-XXX = Nehalem = 3-4 year old Laptops
    i5-2XXX = Sandy Bridge = 2-3 year old Laptops
    i5-3XXX = Ivy Bridge = 0-2 year old Laptops
    i5-4XXX = Haswell = A couple month old Laptops

    • My i7-2600 is still doing great :)

    • cheers dude.

what about the tecra a11 i7?
it looks like its under 2 years old.

      thoughts?

      • +1

        "tecra a11 i7"
Did a quick search. There are references on google from Jan 2010 & reviews mid 2010. Memory speed also is lower I'm thinking means older.
        I guess it's 3-4y.o.

      • Toshiba Tecra is Toshiba's business-grade laptop, and is actually quite well-made comparing to ThinkPad Edge and Latitude E5xxx on the list. It's older and more expensive though.

  • Are these heavy?

    • Per model or all up. More than I can carry.

  • +2

Those Dells are a quite a few generations old now, but they're very well built and very hardy. MUCH better than some of the similar generation business-spec laptops

  • I need a cheap laptop to stream media. These will be good enough?

  • Lenovo G560 i5 - $190
    Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 - $250
    Toshiba TECRA A11 i7 - $220

which one is a better deal out of these ?

    thanks all.

  • can confirm x series are generally good for lenovo for tank. but horrendous small problem issues e.g. keyboard faulty, bezel cracks etc.but impossible to break

  • SO where do you click to buy?

or do we need to ring up to order?

  • I'm not really confident about buying the rented items since they seem over used (over charged) and user mostly don't use them carefully. I'm out.

  • +4

Just a heads up for anyone wanting to get the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 to ThinkAgain, I thought it was a good laptop, having usb 3.0, a HD+ display, 720p camera, etc, but it's got a LOUD FAN problem that Lenovo were made aware of well over a year ago, and have not solved it , you can read about it here :

  • Sent email day ago. Still waiting on reply. As the post says, they are swamped. Hope I can still get my request, cheers.

  • Im still waiting too, sent an email pretty much as soon as it hit ozb on Tuesday night. Fingers crossed

  • anyone heard back from them ?

  • got the same email.

  • Received another email yesterday from their Melbourne store. E530 ordered and being dispatched on Monday.
Looks like I was one of the early ones. Interested how many people from here actually secured one.

    • tbh after shipping $300 for a ex-rental E530 isn't that great a deal

      • +1

I disagree. I needed a plain vanilla laptop and the E530 I received is in as new condition with new bag and mouse and works perfectly. I'm more than satisfied for a 3rd gen i5 with USB3.
I didnt need FullHD, GFX card, SSD, touchscreen, etc

        • well i'm happy for you that you like yours it just doesn't strike itself as an amazing deal for me for an older model E530 with documented fan problem, ex-rental with questionable battery life for $300, and no warranty when it's sub-500 new

  • its $190 + $44 shipping for 1 x g560.
    $380 + $55 shipping for 2-4 x g560.

    plus free bag and mouse.

  • paid and recieved today, flawless condition, very impressed.

    • What did you order?

  • Put my order through for the Epson EB-W12 after office hours last night and received it today at 1pm! Great service and is in good condition, also great projector!

  • +1

    end up ordering 1 x Lenovo G560 , cost me around $240.

Being shipped to Melbourne from Sydney on Monday. Will comment once received.

  • received the laptop. its in perfect working and cosmetic condition. the laptop was factory restored with all the crapware removed. delivery was very fast too. very happy with my purchase.
