Groupon misleading advertising – inflated '$ value' for the Shizuku Ramen Burger and Miso Soup deal

Hi all, just want to bring this into everyone's attention

The deal was advertised on Groupon as "$12 Ramen Burger and Miso Soup at Shizuku ($24 Value)" – screenshot http://imgur.com/hM4RUHv,dV4CBnH#0

But how is this a "$24 Value" voucher when you can get the same deal directly from the restaurant for $15? I took this photo from the restaurant on Saturday http://imgur.com/hM4RUHv,dV4CBnH#1

This is misleading advertising. I have filed a complaint to ACCC too.

Watch out!

Don't think there's any point complaining to ACCC. $24 probably refers to the separate pricing, i.e. if you brought the items separately according to their menu vs buying the deal.

    • Good point – probably won't do much. But I still think I should complain. Even if it's just to show Groupon that consumers are not as gullible as they think.

And I have too much free time heeheehee

the quote is "$24 value" not normally priced at $24 or something along those lines

just because its on special at the store for $15 (all the time…..) does not negate the fact the shop thinks the value of the meal is $24.

agree its misleading but doubt you will get anything out of it

ps 80% of the deals on group buy websites have over inflated RRP

if the shop sells exactly the same product for $15 then it is misleading advertising. it is explicitly mentioned in the group buying code of conduct.

i agree that all the "save" amounts are usually well inflated. true bargains on group buy sites are few and far between

It's $15 on their menu as well.

    • I can find the Miso Soup for $4.5, but not the Ramen Burger. The Ramen is different to the Ramen Burger.

However, that would leave the Ramen Burger to be $19.5, which is one pricey burger!

I buy a lot of food deals on scoopon and groupon. my experience tells me to always check the place and their menue before buying the vouchers. A lot of these resturants and fast foods dont even have the advertised deal as a regular item on their menues. They make up a deal with combining drinks and sometimes made up food.

ACCC will do nothing, but the group that regulates these group buys will. I forget their name, but they have always gotten action for me.
