Photoelectric and ionisation smoke alarm

Sorry for the grammar

photoelectric vs ionisation smoke alarm

What do you use ? What should I get ?

I only want battery only - not 240v main power

has any one use the long life (non replaceable battery ) alarms . I saw a few for $20 and I thought with the 10 year life - saving $3 battry every 6 months

The different in price is only $10. so I was thinking of getting both . I couldn't find smoke alarm that do both . Only duel smoke alarm with one + carbon monoxide detector

What the different from $7 to $40 personally I don't care if I get $40 as it only a once off every 10 years . And could save ur life

I understand the different .

photoelectric - cost more , ($20+) pick up on smoldering fire , ie electric wire in the wall , wire under the bed , faulty computer and electronic . Less false alarms from steam , hot weather , burning toast

ionisation - cost less ($7+) pick up open flame quicker , candle ,

With a full blown fire they both work but I was just thinking that light globe fire , electric blanket , over heating extension cable all smolder first …. Hard to picture a fire that doesn't smolder first …. Gas and a spark is the only benefit for ionisation alarm , but photic are only 30 behide

But you get way less false alarm . So when it does go off you may respond differently

Smoke alarm with both and carbon monoxide (all 3 ) would be ideal if such product exist

  • We have 3 sets of both. Cheap insurance.

  • read the choice review of smoke alarms (search on their website). it is probably a bit dated in terms of models but it will give you a primer.

you can get combo photoelectric/ionisation alarms for ~$40. i got some of these when masters had a 30% off smoke alarms promo going earlier on in the year.

batteries are going to last long than 6 months, probably a year or two
