What's a good mattress? [Resolved]

Hey everyone,

Just wondering what your opinion on a mattress is. I know the generic response is "try it out for yourself", and I'll get there eventually, but there are a loottt of mattresses, and I was wondering if there was a starting point.
A few more popular ones mentioned on Ozbargain are the; Ergoflex, Ikea's Sultan, and Tempur.
I was wondering if there are any other I should consider, or any I shouldn't bother with.

My budget's around the $400 mark for a good single mattress

Thanks!

  • Ergo Flex is my pick. Here's my review on it and I've now been in the NT the last 2 years and there have been no problems with the warmth of the mattress. I'll be buying one again in 10 years time or so when this one is done. Not for everyone but fantastic if you can make the adjustment to memory foam mattresses.

    • That looks great.

    • Thanks for the link!
But man, that delivery is a killer!
I wish they had a B&M store so I could try it out first…

  • Ikea have 20% off mattresses. Never used one though.

    • The latex one is really comfy with a slats base

  • A good mattress is one that isn't a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang.

  • Crazy Sales have a brand called Lily Hill latex topped Q mattresses for around $259. What an absolute bargain, they are worth twice as much. They also provide entertainment value in watching them expand to full size after being released from their boxes. So, so comfy, have now bought 5 for the whole family and visitors have even commented on how great they are and asked where they can buy.

Actually, I have just checked and they are presently (@ 24.11.13) on sale for $219.95 (20% off).

  • .

  • Ikea matress are luxury quality at a affordable unbeatable prices, And right now with its sale with 20% off I wouldn't recommend anywhere but ikea! The Sultan Fonnes is one of the best, paid only $150 single after discount, identical quality with sealy and bears beds, could not tell the difference, only the price, you won't regret buying from ikea!

  • Bit off topic..

I bought dunlopillo pocket springs model for about $2k king size..
Great bed.. Had it two years now.. Probably get 15yrs use out of if with
Regular care. Since we spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping then $2k is a bargain

  • I've decided to not get Ergoflex because of 1) the delivery cost, 2) there's nowhere to try it, and 3)it's memory foam, not latex.
I'm going to go into Ikea and likely get the latex one from there.
    Thanks for all your suggestions

    • +1

latex mattresses are good to sleep on, but are really HEAVY to move if you plan on moving house
