Android 4.4 Kitkat OTA Nexus 7 2012 Feedback

My nexus wifi only was bought from Grays, like many others on this site I suppose.

Was prompted that software update Kitkat downloaded and ready to install. Afraid to update due to issues I had with 4.3 before. Anything significant change, or any issues encountered after updating to Kitkat?

  • Just grab the Nexus Root Toolkit, if anything goes wrong, you can flash back to 4.3. I did this for a friend of mine who got his device bricked.

  • Just upgraded mine.

    No issue so far.

  • Upgraded mine, No problems so far. If anything it seems to have improved the speed, things seem a bit snappier.

    • With the update comes the new launcher? Or is it N5 exclusive only?

      • It isn't officially included in the update, but you can sideload the APK to enable it on any device running 4.1+. I think the majority of the launcher was actually included in the recent Google Search app update.

  • If you successfully upgraded to 4.3, the risk of bricking going to 4.4 is low.
Mine bricked on the 4.3 update, but I strongly suspect it's because it had been flashed with the 3G variant ROM image in the factory.
I recovered it myself and interestingly mine still doesn't recognise that 4.4 is available.

  • Mine bricked on 4.3, but updated to 4.4 without any dramas

  • Thanks for the feedback. Updated OTA and aside from the color change, I notice less heating while playing Tapped Out.
