Hi everyone.
I need to replace my keyboard on my HP laptop.
I an not sure whether I should do that or just buy a new laptop.
I brought it in 2010 and I like windows 7.
But if it will cost a lot to fix is it worth just buying a new one?
If it is worth fixing does anyone know a good place to take it in south East Melbourne area (anywhere from Elwood to Frankston). Thank you in advance
Cheers,
Nettie
Should I buy a new one?

Don't forget you can always click cancel.
What's the model of the laptop?
Keyboard replacements are easy to do yourself. But the keyboard itself may be expensive or difficult to source, and if the cost exceeds $30 or so dollars I'd rather leave it as it is and just buy a new laptop.
i would buy a new one.even the cheaper ones would be better then your 2010 model.
Try bugging the retailer you bought it from. Tell them you expect that a laptop should last three years (i.e. acceptable quality) under Australian Consumer Law and see what they say.
That tactic almost never works, you don't get what you want by threatening unless it comes down to that. I've always found that showing you are knowledgeable, speaking politely and with respect will generally get you the best service.
Using legal terms and scaremongering doesn't really work and they'll just be difficult back.
i'd agree… it is 3yrs and the kbd is classed as a wear item
look on ebay for your kbd
download the service manual for your unit and see if you can do it
if you cant, see if you got a friend or someone who is tech and see if they'll do it for you for a nominal fee
imo once you add up the kbd + professional service it can get expensive
if you use your laptop more on a non mobile situation than mobile buy a 2 dollar desktop usb kbd and use that cheap and workable without the pain of a new system
what's wrong with it? are the keys sticky? you should be able to pull the key caps off and clean underneath the caps. also the whole keyboard assemblely (which is usually held in by a clipping mechanism) should come out quite easily it you find the right points
