ALDI mobile changes $35 prepaid, reduces entitlements

Hi folks,

Aldi prepaid $35 was originally 5 gig data with unlimited txts & calls. A couple of months back they reduced data from 5 gig to 2.5 . Now they have reduced the unlimited talk & txt to 2000 texts (national)& 2500 mins talk (national) & 500 MMS (national).

Is there a better plan or prepaid out there?

Thanks

For $5 more, Amaysim looks pretty good. I am not with them or anything, but I am closely monitoring plans just in case TPG decides to terminate my grandfathered plan as they changed their notice period to 1 month recently.

  • Yeah, i know,, It pisses me off as well as they got me from their intial offer of 5gb data plan and unlimited calls and text locally. If someone can suggest a better prepaid service I am also interested.

  • boost mobile

  • i use boost as well. $40 gets you unlimited texts and calls, 3 gb of data.

  • Boost also use the full NextG network which is pretty quick compared to most 3g options from Optus and Vodafone.

Could also check out Vaya or LiveConnected that use Optus' 4g network

  • So far amaysim has been good.I was with Kogan then Aldi and now amaysim.
They all have worked well for me in Sydney metro.Only changed from aldi in protest at them halving data. And now changing calls and text eh! What next?

  • I moved to Aldi because I wanted to be on the Telstra network. The move from 5 => 2.5 GB annoyed me, but I haven't bumped into the lower limit so I didn't complain. This latest move still shouldn't affect me because we don't use any where near the new calls/text limits. But the trend is very, very worrying.

  • I guess the question becomes is NextG more reliable than Optus 4g?

I found Optus 3g to be shocking and essentially had no data on Sydney trains which is where I want it most.

  • Well as much as everyone is suggesting for Boost mobile. Has anyone seen the international rates for Boost compared to ALDI? I was surprised on how they are very much different.

POSTPAID ON TESTRA 3G 12 MONTH CONTRACT
    http://www.telechoice.com.au/kogan-offers

After the koganmobile drama i decided this was about the best value ($20 cap) and you can change your cap up or back down for the following month. data is per kb and i turn off andriod apps access to 3G, except the browser & tunin app. use wifi for thoes and mcD/HJ/Coffeelub wifi when im out. Unlimited inc SMS makes a big difference in the call value and $500 is heaps (for me anyway)

Just saying ALDi had to reduce value so save $5 get 500mb less than BOOST $40 or try Telechoice… 12 month contract isnt any worse than prepaying 12 months on koganmobile…

If you want data and get vodafone coverage they are the best value on prepaid as you can buy $8/300mb from the recharge credit and $16/300mb from the funnymoneybonuscredit… They also have double the data until feb, so $30 recharge $450 CR 500+500mb (use this first) then buy $16/300mb packs (must be on 3G not wifi, buy in the vodafone app) 450/16=28*300=8.4gb + 30/8=1.1gb for a max total data of 9.5gb+1gb (500+500) = 10.5gb! All from a single $30 recharge

    • Seems like a lot of mucking around to me.

  • Try Vaya
Best deals now that ALDI mobile is dead to me $19 for lots of calls and 1.5 gig (but is on optus 4G network unfortunatly. After being recomended them for data i got a Data sim for $33 for 10Gig also.

  • vaya/lc are the same company now but LC (liveconnected) charge per kb and vaya charge per mb but they let you buy additional data (1gb is $7)

    • i've been trying to decide between the 2 for a while… where does it say on the lc website that i can buy extra data?

this will be the deciding factor for me over vaya.

also i know these are 4g plans.. will the data still work ok on my 3g quad band pbone (sgs2)?

  • Yeah, what a shame. Just finished my first full bolt on month with Aldi. Even though I'd be well under the limits, I liked not having to 'think' about my usage.

Poor buggers probably got done over by Telstra again, I assume they would have lost a lot of Prepaid and Boost customers to Aldi.
