Am I wrong to ask for shipping cost back for a faulty purchase? Advice please

As per the title, I recently got a refund (only took them 2months+) from gocomp regarding a faulty MIVE-Z (deed faulty by ASUS in silver water due to no replacement parts).

Anyway, they refunded me the cost of the item but there's still a small amount from the shipping that was not covered. Should I contact them for the money or should I just write off the $12.50?

  • It depends on how much your time is worth for you, really. If you're busy or you have better things to do, $12.50 isn't much, but if you have spare time and want to get to the bottom of it, I'm sure with enough hassling, you'll get the money back.

    • Yeah I was just planning on sending emails to them so I didn't think it would take much time, was just wondering whether I should do it out of principle that it was faulty to begin with and I wasn't the one at fault

      • +4

Shoot one off to make yourself feel better - you've then satisfied yourself that you've given it a shot.

But I personally wouldn't spend that much time chasing it after that if they don't just do it after the initial email.

        • Like above give it a shot…..You have more to gain, than lose. :)

        • Thanks guys,

Will probably do so depending on whether someone can clarify the query below.

          Cheers

  • ACCC says you have to pay for shipping unless the cost is "significant". I wouldn't say $12.50 is significant: http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees/…

    • Actually i didn't have to return it to gocomp, i had it returned to ASUS in silverwater and they liaised with gocomp for the refund. The shipping i was talking about was the cost of it getting shipped to me in the first place.

Is that still considered under that fee? If so, then i wouldn't bother with asking them back as you said it really isn't significant but i was just thinking out of principle lol.

      • It would be good service for GoComp to refund you, but they don't have to. It's simple to understand really. When ASUS liased with GoComp they did for the cost of whatever you bought was.

The shipping cost has already been paid to the courier, so if they refund you that, they will be out of pocket $12.50. But if they're a good business and they value a good reputation, they should be willing to refund.

        Good luck!

  • The only time I ask for postage to be covered is when they make a mistake. I bought some tshirts once from a business (now closed) who sent me L instead of 2XL. They refused to send me the right size (even though they had them in stock) so I insisted on them paying for the return postage.

    • Yeah, after thinking about it… i'll probably just let it go… its not like i am entitle, if i did do anything i'd feel like i'm throwing a tantrum just to get what i want.

      Cheers for the advice guys!

      • If the item is DOA shipping refund yes. If you used it for a while shipping refund no.

Send them an email though and notify them how you were happy with their service and ask them for a store credit or something. Just ask! Takes you two mins to fire off an email.

There are very few industries as competitive as I.t. and go comp im sure would sort something out for you.
