Which China phone? 5" Screen under $250

Have been interested in the Kogan branded Agora HD but from advice of others seems theres better valued chinese-made phones out there.

Sorry I have no idea on phones except for the mainstream brands.

I currently have a Note 2 (but the wife seems to want to steal that from me lately ). My main use, apart from phone calls and sms are watching videos. I also enjoy the snappiness and lag-free qualities of the Note 2, so would like something with similar performance

My criteria is:
850/2100 bands (Telstra use)
5 inch screen
1gb ram (minimum but would prefer 2gb if possible)
Good camera and video capabilities (Note 2 equivalent or better)

My budget is $250 but as always, the lower the better

Have been recommended the THL W200 on WP, looks good and will fit my needs, but whats the best site to order on (and any discount codes available)?

Edit: I'm also liking the Note 3 clones. I have heard the stylus is no good on the clones but I never really used it anyway.

  • Alcatel Onetouch idol X. It's not made by Alcatel-Lucent but TCL

  • Have you seen the Sony Xperia C? You can pick one up for about $310 delivered from Expansys

    • HATED my Xperia Sola. I know its a different phone but the painful experience has turned me off Sony phones :(

  • Aldi have a 5" quadcore for $250 this Saturday. Not sure of the full specs but worth checking out

You cant do much better than that, as you get protected by Australian consumer laws too.

    • I think ive settled on the thl w200.

  • +1

    I ordered a THL W200 last weekend.

I went through http://aud.dx.com/ - came to $198 I think after conversion from $171 US dollars. If you use the AU gateway of DX then returns only have to be sent to Sydney, plus if you go through the http://aud.dx.com/ site when you purchase, you get a $20 coupon for any purchase over $40 you can use after the current 1st anniversary promo is finished. If you plan on buying two use two transactions and get $20 for each.

    • Cheers buddy. Ended up ordering a W7S (5.7" screen, slightly lower spec cpu i think) for $186US. Purchased through aud.dx.com so will get the coupon code but didnt know about the return thing (thanks for that).

      • I went in to buy a W100 and couldn't help spending that little bit more. Then once I'd convinced myself the w200 was the go I started looking at the next one up… Reined it in and stopped on the w200. I'm coming from a HTC desire, 3.7". I looked at a 5" phone after I'd already ordered and it looks massive in comparison. 5.7" is huge.

I also ordered a case and screen protectors from banggood.

Now trawling through getting all the rooting etc info sorted.

        • I'm coming from a 5.5" screen- Note 2 (I know this'll be a downgrade, but the wife keeps stealing it) so I'm use to a big phone 0.2" isn't going to be too much to get used to.

As long as the W7s takes decent shots and plays my tv shows/movie downloads ill be happy.

        • I use MX player and it hasn't baulked at a file yet. Plays MKVs and MP4s and supports multi-core decoding.

        • Thanks mate. I use that with my sgn2 so will be one of the first apps installed on the thl

        • I bought the W8+ from audDx, was a little bit more than W200 but better specs.

Did you guys get your $20 voucher, I havent got mine yet?

        • Mine came through instantaneously. Visible in the user account details under coupons or something similar. There was no notification or anything though. I made another purchase a minute or so later rather than bundle it and got another $20. There is also a $5 coupon for subscribing to the newsletter.

        • Yep I can see the $20 coupon in my account too. Valid from 1/12

  • no.1 n3 is one of galaxy note 3 clone, i see it on many website, one resell store price at $189.99

  • As posted in another thread about China phones, like anything else if price is your threashold then buying a unbranded / clone, call them what you want you will get what you pay for just as you get when buy a branded version.

I personally when talking to people about unbranded version of mobile devices steer well away from price and talk about specs and what they want to do with the phone.

Like anything else there is the upside and and the downside in buying unbranded mobile devices. Price is the upside, downside can be the total quality and support.

I been buying devices direct from china for over 7 years and in that time I think I have had three different phones. Current one is a 5 inch that people say looks like the Samsung and when they play with it, all they give is positive comments, but it is now outdated with Samsung bringing out their latest versions. It performs well enough for me so I am happy.

Unbranded means it is NOT a copy of anything and is an OEM phone but may look like some branded versons and have very similar specs.

I personally have only once bought a cheap china phone and it was branded THL but I did not enjoy it and got rid of it within 6 months - actually gave it away to someone who had never had a smartphone and wanted one to try out, so I taught him how to use it and gave it to him.

Electronics date very quickly as everyone of the makers keep trying to out do each other and mobile devices are no different.

From personal experience in buying unbranded versions I would say focus on the specs alone and you may pay more than your $250 but it still will be half the cost of the branded version and that way you get a phone that will do want you want it to do.

    Pray this assists.
