I bought a uncut Left 4 Dead 2 key from Gamestop months ago and it was never patched to cut by any steam server. The North American uncut Left 4 Dead 2 has a completely different Steam ID than the Australian cut version. There will be no need to run Left4Uncut.
I had the AU version. Left4Uncut no longer works. Fortunately, Steam gave me a refund.
If you have the AU version, and want to uncut the offline game, you can edit the config files:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.152752-Decenso…The online game is much better. And cannot be uncut.
Someone made a new version called Left4Gore
There is a newer alternative to left4uncut called left4gore, http://www.left4gore.com/ which is available for Linux too =)
Reported this to Mary Whitehouse
Gamefly says its for Windows only but Steam says it is supported by Mac. Will this edition work on Mac?
If is steam and they have a mac version on Steam ( which they do ) then yes.
Also for Linux
Does this mean I download the PC version and download/install, it would work automatically on mac?
I can confirm that this works for Mac. Open the steam client, then paste in the activation code (which you get after buying the game). This game then shows up in the mac game library. Make sure you insert the code on a mac, though.
yo if i redeem this threw steam would my copy still be uncut
Yeah I'm curious if you get 2 game installs (cut and uncut) as well?
I have the censored version, if I buy this key and activate it, what would happen?
Just use this program http://www.left4gore.com/
Try asking Steam for store credit and remove the AU version from your account. I asked Steam the following:
It wasn't clear that I was buying the Low Violence Version of "Left 4 Dead 2". I am quite disappointed because this game is difficult to enjoy without the gore. Is the non-Low Violence Version available? If so, could I exchange my Low Violence Version for the non-Low Violence Version? If not, do I have any other options? And this is their reply:
Unfortunately, I cannot switch the version for anybody in your region. As with most software products, we do not offer refunds or exchanges on games, DLC or in-game items purchased on our website or through the Steam Client.
As long as there is no more play-time, as a customer service gesture we can issue you store credit for the amount of your purchase into your Steam Wallet. The credit will also remove the title or item from your account.
Please confirm that you would like us to proceed with this credit.
As far as I know, they only do this once per account so I would save it if I can (for a larger purchase that may be problematic)
I already own the AUS version, I just bought this hoping it would work in Steam as a different version but registers as the same game and doesn't work.
so it wouldn't accept the key ? or it accepted the key and the game looks / is the same?
If it accepted the key then I would try to delete the local game contact cache and re-download it - maybe you will get the other version.
.. the shit we adults have to go through to play a violent game, yet I could Google a few key words and see a lot worse ( and real ) imagery on-line …
Wouldn't accept the key.
Just tried http://www.left4gore.com/
works perfectly, I didn't realise that someone had patched the online version. Thanks agret!
catch is you can only play against people who have it switch on though right .. so you need to get all your friends to do that too?
no.
Wow, there are still people playing this game? I have played over 800 hours of this game and had to uninstall it last year to stop me keep playing :D
i know what you mean, i'd clocked up closer to 1400 hours but stopped about a year ago when i bought a "renovators delight" … might have to give it another go & buy some more keys to play with friends @ my place
well I have 1500hr over the course of 3 years and still going, its really a fun game and it never gets old the multiplayer of course:P, this is a bargain at this price, deff buy it if you don't have it!
where do u put the code in? nothing on the checkout page…
Unlike most unline store, the place you enter a coupon code doesn't show up until right at the end, after you have filled in your CC details and clicked through.
and what about if you choose paypal?
After you sign into paypal, it will allow you to put the code in. I did it.
I was waiting for the non-redacted version to show up on a store outside Steam at a discount. Trying to purchase from Steam using a temp credit card, new US Steam account, VPNing, then gifting it to your real account, is too much hassle for the common man.
Farout. I've got a region locked malaysian verison on my account, and steam wont do a damn thing about it. And this DOES NOT replace existing copies, even external regions. Waste of $3.50.
why can't they remove it from your account?
They say they need the original serial for verification (because i put it overseas andit worked there i just chucked it out on the spot, get back to Aus and locked).
So whats the best/easiest way to get it on AUS account?
Just activate it, you'll get the uncensored version and it'll stay that way. (if you don't already own the game).
How the hell can you buy more than one copy? Gamefly sucks
Dead island in my opinion is a far better game! And it is also $3.99
for single player, and maybe co-op, yes.
but the versus mode is what makes L4D2 shine.^^for multiplayer, it beats any other multiplayer game I have ever played, including cod, battlefield, gta online etc..
I'm seriously too busy killing tanks and Hunters to worry about gore. Am I the only one?
nope, i'm the same, had L4U but never used it, it just got in the way
Feel free to pm me here if you want to add me on Steam to play L4D2 :) Time to slaughter some witches! :P
If the uncut version gets patched via the Australian steam servers, grab the program called "Left4Uncut" - that will work if you have the Australian version too.
Plus there's plenty of mods around to keep this game alive. It's quite good fun and definitely worth the 4 bucks.
