PHILIPS Media Player HMP4000/79 $59.98 delivered (save $40)
Based on specs - I dont rate it. Philips has cunningly designed the speakers to look like 2-way, three driver W-T-W design - actually the speakers (tall boys and centre) have just one 3 inch driver each - the others are fake. And 1000 watts output?I don't think so. Power consumption of 160 watts, so probably about 20 watts per channel realisitically. Sorry cant comment on the samsung model not familiar with it - however its not really possible to be cheaper/crappier than one 3" per channel.
Done any other research on this kind of thing?
I've moved in with the mrs… and my old speaker setup is waaay too huge for her house. I'm looking for a 5.0 speaker package (have a capable amp and sub already) that sounds good without dominating the room.
Willing to spend say $1000 if need be, although that's stretching it ($600 would be better).
Given you already have a sub (so something like wharfedale DX-1 prob doesn't suit) I'd look at Klipsch quintet. Version 5 $649:

or get version 4 from the states for $506:

Thanks :)

Any views on the Philips Media Player guys ie. Compared to WDTV Live?
Any ideas how the philips home theatre is? Can't seem to find whether it has wireless rear speakers or not?
Also, not sure how does the philips one compared to the samsung one for $498 ($100 off currently) http://www.dicksmith.com.au/speakers/samsung-5-1ch-3d-bluray…
