Hey guys,
I need to visit the dentist, and get a filling too.
Who would you guys recommend for a reasonable price, but good quality?

This doesn't answer your question, but I'm in support of the young new dentists.
I'm from Sydney.
I finally had enough of my dentist…(supposedly top notch)… of making me wait for over an hour every time I had an appointment, two hours once.
So I started going to random dentist till I found a good one. The good one incidentally looks like it was used for new out of uni students, they were always young and there were no gap payment. They have proven to be the one of the best dentists Ive ever had, they were always careful and took their time.
which is OK if you have straightforward procedures, but if something is not quite textbook it can get very messy (eg lost teeth). Generally a good dentist will take xrays before going near your mouth (covers his/her ar$e if a previous dentist messed up)…xrays are usually about $80 each (2 required) + consultation fee and you're up to nearly $300 for a first visit.
The dental school route may be your best option as at least there will be a dentist who is pretty good supervising (hopefully…but I've heard stories to the contrary there too).
Or some health schemes run a no-fee dental service (HCF has some in Sydney which can make a cheap flight up from VIC good value).
I get xrays
As its a no gap dentist, they try to get you do to as much as they can without screwing you.
I feel its a we want you to come back relationship and not a 'we own your axx' attitude that Dentists and Doctors seem to have.
Dr Amro Tawfik at Errol Dental Studio in North Melbourne. Lucked in when I found him when I moved to Melbourne 10 years ago and would never go elsewhere. Really friendly and gentle while working.
I have health insurance which covers my checks ups and have fortunately only had one filling years ago so not sure if the prices compare to elsewhere but I never wait more than 15 mind when I go for my twice yearly check ups. Have recommended Errol Dental to others and they have seen Amro and others dentists there and all have been happy with their services.
you can go to a dental school and be a guinea pig for dental students (they have practiced for several hundred hours on models and have done several thousand hours of study).
university of melbourne dental college may be an option. or other dental schools in melbourne.
can't find their website but here is what uni of Queensland dental clinic offers
are you a uni student? some uni's have subsidized dentistry on campus. Monash had a dentist attend the caulfield campus once a week when i was there.
otherwise look for a bulkbilling dentist -google.
