For the third time in a row, copy pasting this deal, enjoy!

Hey everybody, the bi-annual Criterion Collection sale is running at the moment with Barnes & Noble.

All Blu-Ray and DVD's are 50%, including pre-orders. Some really great movies on offer, in what could only be described as the definitive version. For anyone who doesn't know what Criterion are all about, here's a link to their site: http://www.criterion.com/

Keep in mind all Criterion Collection products are Region A/Region 1 for BD/DVD respectively, so a Region free player is required.

  • Bi-annual is once every 2 years, right? Like bicentennial is once every 2 centuries. Semi-annual is twice a year.

    • Wrong. I mean right!!!. The truth is it can mean both and as such is a word which should never be used.

    • Biannual can mean once every two years, but it isn't a common usage — "biennial" is more commonly used in that context.

The Oxford English Dictionary (the full 20 volume one) hasn't revised its definition for the word since 1887:

      biannual, adj. and n.

      A. adj.
      Used as = Half-yearly.
1870 ‘Ouida’ Puck I. xii. 245 Every half-year his lawyers transmitted him..the biannual rental.

      B. n.
      = biennial n.
      1884 Illustr. Sydney News 26 Aug. 15/1 Plant out..annuals and bi-annuals.

I can't trust those douche-bags at Oxford Dictionary any more.
They added a second definition to "literally" which means precisely the opposite of it's literal, I'm sorry, actual meaning.

Now when someone says "I literally can't do this" I don't know what they mean.

  • Always good, I just wish Criterion would stop with the silly Region coding, there is no good reason for this.

    • It's a bit of a pain yea, I just watch them on my PC though. Not optimal, but HTPC will fix that soon!

  • Is there any way to make a Region B PS3 play Region A discs?

    • Nope.

These B&N Criterion sales always cause damage to my wallet. There are a few upcoming that I want for my collection.

    • I cannot recommend enough preordering Frances Ha.

  • Will have to wait for the next sale to get this:

EDIT: Discount available for pre-orders! Ordered!

    • I own the Aus and Japanese version of Takeshi Kitano's film version.
No real difference, slightly different run times due to PAL vs NTSC.

      • Okay? But this is the original Zatoichi though. FTR Takeshi Kitano's version isn't (has no bearing) in this boxset…..

        • I know, just another Zatoichi story.

    • Hey! No fair why is it available on that pre-order and not Nashville or Thief :(
