I would say Nov is a good time to go down south. Augusta is where the bigger attractions are. I prefer going South to North; not so much driving and more to do. Plenty of wineries and small local businesses around the area. Be sure to allow enough time to check them out.

  • thanks yhakong, can u suggest some good hotels or someplace to stay and the approx budget for 2-3 days.? Do u think 2 days are enought to visit?

    • I can recommend a nice campground down there if you wanna rough it. Wharncliffe mill. 2 mins out of margs. Very nice spot.

    • locals often go down to Margs for a weekend getaway. To be on the safe side, I would say 3-4 days would be good.

as for hotels, I cannot recommend anything I am afraid. Accommodation did not matter much to me the times I have been there and I usually get the cheapest. When on a roadtrip, the one that fits the driving schedule is the best. On this note, many hotels/motels will force you to book at least 2 nights with them. I like to visit Busselton on the way back… very peaceful… be sure to catch the sunset if you do go.

with regards to budget, this prices show that it is a touristic region. You will probably be looking at 50-100 per night per person for a group of about 4. Of course, it is cheaper if you go in large groups.
I would say about $100-150 per person per day but that is just an estimate of what I would spend. Traveling in Australia is so expensive.

Try going on Expedia or Agoda for hotel specials. Agree with yhakong that Augusta is lovely & not quite as commercialized as Margaret River - everything there is more expensive catering for the tourist industry. Even buying their wine is cheaper on line than going to the wineries - although the area is beautiful to visit.

  • thanks all.. does any one know what would be approx cost for 2 ppl for 2-3 days in margaret

    • Hi ozzyoi, give Toby Inlet B&B in Dunsborough a call 08 9756 7653, can recommend it. i live in Dunsborough and the first comment is not quite correct. Apart from the lighthouse there is not mmuch down at Augusta. 90% of the wineries are at Dunsborough not Margaret River. Margaret River Wine Region is the whole area.

  • Hi Ozzyoi,
For 2people, 2 nights accomodation, few activities and meals you would be looking at about the following prices
Budget - $350 - $400 [Cheap hotels (possibly looking as far as in Dunsborough /Yallingup) and some self catering]
Mid Range - $500 - $600 [Decent hotels in Margaret River, Preverly or Yallingup and some self catering]
High Range - $750 - $1000 [High quality hotels in good locations eating out most meals]

If you stay in Busselton or Augusta you can reduce the prices a fair bit as there is more competition (Busselton) or less demand (Augusta). Alternatively if you camp you would be looking around $40 - 60 a night for two people.

This is for November, leave it until Dec/Jan and you can add about 20-50% to the above prices.

    Hope that helps.

  • thanks :)

    • As the 13 November is tmw have you booked anywhere? Toby Inlet B&B prices dont go up until 19 December. Then the Christmas rate applies.

Hello ozzyoi; if i was looking for accomodation in the area then i would do a search on the internet; search for hot deals for accomodation in that area; i hope that i am of some assistance in your journy.

  • None of the group buy deals will be honoured during summer school holidays. Your November time slot is about right for saving $. Call the places that offered the vouchers, they may do you a deal similar.
