ShoppingExpress bad experience/drama

hey guys,
its Monday and I thought its my lucky day to find a bug in shoppingexpress deal
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/121766

the bug was if you add any micosd card with the 8gb you will get the 8gb FREE. plus if you add any thing in you cart with these two items you will get FREE shipping what ever you add.

I only was looking to buy some microsd cards and the Toshiba W15 Nano Wireless Mouse

I placed two orders due to the limitation for 8gb
first order was 16gb and 8gb for $12.90
second order was 16gb, 8gb and the mouse for $15.02

I paid for both using paypal

here is the drama, I was kind (stupid) enough to PMed ShoppingExpress to let them know to avoid any loss or hassles as I know they lost alot last week with this deal (did not order one)
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120988

after couples PMs they fixed the problem and want me to choose between
1 x Samsung 16GB microSD
1 x PA5042A-1ETB
plus pay for postage

or
N00148407
1 x Samsung 16GB microSD
for $12.90 (without the 8gb)

the rep claimed the bug was caused because I requested a deal for the 16gb http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/121766#comment-1670808
but it was working even without ordering the 16gb

I know its not my right to ask to houner my orders, but my mistake was telling them about the bug which I thought its the right thing to do as the did a lot of deals for us. Now I am asking to cancel my orders as I did not expected that to happen.

just little advice, if you found a bug keep it for your self and dont tell the rep you may have more chance to get it than do the right thing.

I'd hardly call it a drama. It obviously was a mistake on their behalf - which is why you contacted them about it. It comes down to your personal moral compass when deciding what to do in the situation. You can't expected to be rewarded for every little thing you do right.

I am not asking for a reward as I said this what I thought the right to do as SE did great deals for us and I heat to see them closing down but neither I expected this happen.
I just liked to shear my experience

I called it drama because I was disappointment :(

Disappointed that you couldn't exploit the bug? O.o

Well expecting them to honour an error is expecting a reward. Maybe it's just that they had absolutely no idea what you were trying to say in your email? I'm not aiming to be mean, but I honestly had to read that comment through more than half a dozen times before I had the slightest clue what you were trying to say.

        • may be I am expecting too much then :)
anyway its up to them if they will hounour it or not, its depends on how kind they are.

just was shearing an experience and may someone learn something

I've had nothing but great experiences with ShoppingExpress so far. Currently in the process of RMA'ing a DOA DLink IP Camera to them and they've processed my claim very swiftly and provided a return postage label - couldn't ask for anything more than that.

Not quite sure what your comment/story is about but it doesn't sound like they've done anything wrong to me - just a simple website error which they do not have to honour as per their T&C's.

To be perfectly honest, your reasoning is that if I find a phone on the street and I take it to the police station, I will be allowed to keep it.

Same logic - you found a bug, you want to be able to exploit the bug.

At the end of the day, it's up to you - you can either take the moral high road and choose to report it to SE or you can choose to exploit it and stay silent.

I hope that SE respects what you've done and I really do appreciate that you've done the right and honest thing, but I don't think that SE is obligated to reward you for it though.

I'm staying "silent" about a DVD box set received yesterday (not from ShoppingExpress).

    1. Item was on our wish list.

    2. Obvious pricing error one day last month (under $5 for a four season boxset) but I ordered and paid with Paypal.

    3. Following day, get an email apologising for their error, the order could not be fulfilled.

    4. I sent a courteous email expressing my disappointment but accepting their error.

    5. Original payment + $5.00 "apology" credited to my account.

    6. Nearly a month later, it's here! It was left outside my front door so obviously no proof of delivery.

So what's the point? In this case, I didn't much care and accepted that I wouldn't get it. By having no expectations, I was pleasantly surprised.

    • Wait, so you've been paid $5.00 and you get the box set anyway? Not bad!

      • Yeah, they paid me to take it ;)

We bought a lot of stuff from this e-trader, before and after the botched order. They're very big, but if they do this too often it will hurt them.

  • Their coupon always has error and mistakes. Last time they deducted $100 for my purchase over $350 and few days later ask me to pay another $50 before they send my order! WTF! They should take a note that test the discount code before live!
