  • 770 is a bit too exp at the moment when you can get it delivered under 400usd from amazon.

    • I think you are talking about the 2GB for USD329, but for a 4GB, works out to be around $450 in AUD

      • my bad. yeah. its the 2gb. good thing that the prices are dropping now.

am liking the gtxes now as the new cards have 2 dvi ports rather than 1. there are limited choices in the AMD camp for this requirement :/

Is there any benefit to 4GB over 2GB, at any res that a 770 (or even 780) can do smoothly at max settings, even with current games?

People like 4GB to "future proof" but surely 2GB will never bottleneck a 770?

        • +2

i think the bottleneck is on the bus speed. so even when having a higher capacity, a slow bus will struggle to fully utilise all the memory before the RAM needs to be refreshed again.

          if that makes sense?

i dont oc my stuff, so i will just stick with the cheapest 770 (or whatever that's value for money) reference.

i do however run numbercrunchers on the GPU when I am idle. :D

I prefer the new price for the Galaxy GTX770 GC 2G $389…. so close to pulling the trigger on this to SLI (needs free shipping to seal the deal). Payed $450 a couple of months ago for my current one.

Just hanging out to see the Australian price on the AMD R9 290X and the new GTX 780 TI.

    • I think it will be better for you to invest in a 4gb card from now on. with the new generation of gaming i imagine textures resources will be using up a lot more memory.

But these theortical next-gen textures - will a 770 be able to use them smoothly with other settings maxxed?

Many PC games already have very hi-res textures, what does it take to fill up 2GB right now?

      • If I was just buying my first 770 now, yes I agree. But I already have a 2Gb 770, so if I bought a 4Gb 770 I would be wasting the extra $50-$60 (2Gb), as with SLI it will use the lowest spec to match. i.e with a 2Gb and a 4Gb in SLI both will only use 2Gb, or a standard and an OC version it will match the standard card. I only use if for a 1080p monitor (and a second monitor for my battlelog/map).

The card and deal I mentioned has its own thread now.
