Devondale Fast StartLiquid Breakfast 6x250ml $0.99 (86% off) @ IGA

70

Went to IGA Wantirna and see the Devondale fast breakfast milk 6 packs is heavily discounted to 99c. Did not check other IGA so not sure if other branches has this discount as well. Being a true Ozbargainers, I instantly bought all of what's left on the shelf (enough to last me months) but the attendant said they will restock it again on the next day.

So if you are quick and like quick breakfast like I do, better not miss it!!!

What's this fascination with liquid breakfasts? You've got that to look forward to when you are in your nineties.

And you are confused. A true Ozbargainer is not defined as buying all of the stock. That's the definition of a true Broden.

    • Well I got big families :) so if that makes me a broden, then broden it is. No regrets.

        "Well I got big families"

Directly? How many spouses do you have?

        • -3

Mmmm big families means many spouses? Hmmm nice logic.

Given this got hammered in the media this week winning an annual Shonky award (nothing more than milk and flavoured sugar, despite having real oats, real banana and honey on the box), no wonder it's on super special!

    • +2

great if you are just after flavoured milk though!

    • Well, it's not worse than energy drink I would think @ 86% off I am willing to call it snack if that is more acceptable. Heck I'll call it happy drink, a healthier option when you are depressed.

Wrong sugar drink… that one you describe is "Oats Express" with the real oats, real banana and honey featured on the box. That one takes terrible as well.
Devondale Fast Start is a nicer tasting drink.

      • Both are inferior to up and go in my opinion.

Source: 15 second breakfasts for majority of the year.

        • Agreed. Nothing beats Up & Go… I also consider myself a Liquid breakfast connoisseur.. Not that that is anything to be proud of :P

"The statement "goodness of three grains" is really bordering on the misleading in my opinion. I mean .3% means that of the 250ml only around 0.75g is grain! Now compare this to the message that the drink is 99% fat free. There are 2.5g of fat in this drink. That's three times the amount of so-called "grain goodness"! You really have to watch this advertising speak. If we used the same criteria for the grains they used for the fat we would say it was 99.7% grain-free!

They mean it literally, three grains of barley.

  • when do they expire?

    • Mine is good until January 2014.

    • "when do they expire?"

The picture in the deal show 12/11 in the shelf label (for the coffee anyway)

      • +1

I believe 12/11/2013 is the promotion end date not the expiry. (for the coffee anyway)

        • Ah yes, of course. I had a 'stupid' moment. Thanks :)

  • Wow - I've been living on these lately, and thought <$1.00 each was a bargain … 6x for that price is stupid crazy :/ Hopefully this is all stores, including SA (even if its a bit more, as we get the 10c deposit refund on these too)

Edit - on second thought, surely this is a cock-up by one store…?!!!

Saw pallets of these for the same discounted price at Mount Waverley IGA the other day. The expiry date was decent, can't remember exact date though.

  • Eeeee hee hee hee it's Friday

Maybe they should come with a graphic image on the front showing the calf being taken away from the mother at birth and slaughtered so she continues to produce milk, all so you can get 10 minutes extra sleep.

    • Yep, neg the truth about the way cows produce milk. Clap, clap, clap.
Guess you didn't like hearing it, hopefully you think about it next time you buy milk…

  • From my knowledge, cows will continue to produce milk as long as they are milked. Yes they need to give birth first but they do not have to be continuously pregnant and giving birth

    • Dairy cows need to produce a calf each year to continually have milk, just like a human mother. Once born, the calf is taken from the mother within 2 days, and mostly slaughtered within a week. A select few are reared for future production. Dairy calf meat is not used for veal, as it is lower quality than a beef cattle calf.
