PANASONIC 50" (127cm) Full HD Smart 3D Plasma TV TH-P50ST60A $1097 Deliverd @ DickSmith

80

For those who missed out on the last deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/119860. DS seem to have it again for $100 more, which is still a good price for this TV.

The DS online store has it listed for $1497, http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tvs/panasonic-50-127cm-full-hd-s… . But I think that is because the sale does not start until tomorrow. Will check to update.

UPDATE: Website has now been updated!

I've never owned a "smart TV", so I'm wondering: what is the difference between a "smart TV", and an ordinary TV with an Android box attached? The only obvious difference seems to be one remote control versus two remote controls, or is there something else?

    • No difference really. They just put internet features on it and call it 'smart'. Kind of like a really big tablet.

      • I think the smart tv's proved too alot more difficult to function unless theres' a way to connect a keyboard to a TV.

I have the 50A version of this and didn't intend to go for any Smart TV features.. all I wanted was excellent PQ for the price, which I got.

The Smart features however have been awesome. The media player on the Panny combined with Serviio on my home server is brilliant.. plays most of the mkv's I throw at it. The online component is a bit clunky but it does mean I can use iView easy enough direct from the TV.

I prefer using my HTPC on a non-smart TV over no HTPC and a smart TV

  • Flicker box.

  • Not many good TV's without the smart feature

  • I'd be wary of buying from DS online, still "awaiting fulfillment" on the unit I brought from the last sale. Of course the money has long left the credit card.

Mine is now awaiting shipment @ 1.5 weeks after paying with credit card - should have it in a few days. Definitely not same day shipping good but I am not sure that people have to be worried about buying from DS

    • They got Ozbargained and it is taking time to fulfil the orders I imagine. I was lucky and got mine quickly. No need to be 'wary'.

      • I'd suggest buying in store if that is an option for people. You roll the dice with how long it takes to receive delivery with DS if you buy online.

  • Just to remind everyone, this is the TV that people say is bad for gaming due to input lag.

Which is a shame really, it's the right size for me and a great price.

    • There is a youtube link in the other deal thread showing the difference between this TV and another. It seemed very slight to me, I guess it depends on the gaming you do.

    • I owned Sony, Samsung, LG LED TVs and just bought this one from TGG during last sale - the (PS3) game is absolutely fine, better than LG and Samsung, don't see any difference from Sony except brightness need to be enhanced a bit. So no worries for games really.

    • I've read up quite a lot on this TV. It does have high input lag, which does impact gaming. It's fine for casual gaming. However if you are planning on playing shooters, especially online, I would not recommend this TV. However you are free to look into this yourself, there is plenty of forums that have discussed the input lag issue of this TV.

It's a shame really. As this TV has one of the best looking screens on the market.

  • It's good deal. Buying a good non smart TV and then connect devices like chromecast then TV become more smarter than Other TVs :)

    • You don't need a ChromCast for this TV (unless you really want to) - because you can pair your smart phones/tablets with this TV - power of VieraConnect :)

  • How is the image quality when hooking up your laptop using Apple TV compare with those LED LCDs?

  • I actually went checking this out in Dick Smith, the one on Swanston St Melbourne. This sits in the corner with other three LEDs. I noticed that this TV flickers a lot compared with others. If you look at any other ones, you'd notice this one is flickering out of the corner of your eyes. Why so? I heard the review couldn't be better.

    • As I said before, this is a 50Hz flicker box.
