Free Android App - NSW Speed Zone and Alerts

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I stumbled upon this app after I was fined for speeding in an unfamiliar area when I completed missed the speed limit signs.

I'm not sure if it's available for Apple iOS, but it works really well on my Galaxy S4. Lately I've been using with with Google Maps as it just floats above the screen and announces changes in the speed limit, if your currently exceeding the limit, and if you're approaching any speed and red light cameras.

I've tried the Speed Alert Live but found this one was simpler and I could still use maps at the same time. I don't think it handles variable speed limits or road work zones, but apart from that, it seems pretty accurate.

  • thanks for sharing! my tomtom disappointing me sometimes. Doesn't pick up all the speed/red cameras and has incorrect speed limits.

  • If you're driving within the speed limit, why bother? The idea of having speed cameras is to ensure motorists abide. Having this app will make the hoons drive mad, pun intended.

    • I agree with you, but I don't think this app had been developed for hoons. I primarily use it as a driving aid so I know what the speed limit is at all times and so I am alerted if I exceed it. Knowing three location of speed camera etc is just a bonus.

Ideally I'd love my car to prevent me from speeding. I think this so is a step in the right direction.

    • Holier than thou comments such as by "downer" really stir me up.
There are many safe ways to drive without constantly checking your speedo, which in itself involves constantly taking your eyes off what is front of you.
I got caught by the speed camera before the airport tunnel in Sydney. I drive this way many times a week. I know the camera is there. I know it is a variable speed zone. On this one occasion I can't even remember why I may have exceeded the limit. I was probably checking my mirrors for all the traffic in this 4 lane heavy traffic area and going with the prevailing speed of the traffic around me.
An app such the one in this thread could have saved me this fine.

      • Agreed, very easy to have a lapse in concentration on the road (despite knowing where the cameras are - even worse if you're driving in a new area with cameras every corner).
