Pantene Shampoo Anti Dandruff 340ml $0.50
@ Coles ST AGNES SA 5097 ONLY

They are usually $6 or so apparently. It's at this store only as they have heaps of surplus.

On the end of a gondola on the northern side of the store, there were boxes there.

Great deal, but for those with problem dandruff (like myself), the best thing to actually work for me was not using any product and just using water to rinse every few days. I used to be so reliant on these products but if I didn't use them every day or two I would get the dandruff back.

Not using any product ain't pretty for the first 2 weeks but after that I honestly have never had hair so manageable and smooth. After a decade of being conscious of wearing black shirts I haven't had as much as a fleck in months.

Might be worth a shot for those out there with dandruff.

But if you just use water, wouldn't the hair build up the odour from sweat?

      • For the first 2 weeks there was. But after that it just goes away and didn't build up at all anymore. I have really thick wavy brown hair too. It's been a few months since and I will rinse it every few days and use standard shampoo once a week.

I had some pretty bad outbreaks which got me reading about it on the net, I didn't think it was going to work but I was at the point of going to the doctors to get some prescription grade stuff (tried selsun, coal tar, fructose, head and shoulders, pantene ect) and it was still there.

So I tried just rinsing with water for 2 weeks like a few articles suggested and it worked really well for me. Not saying it will for everyone, but it can be worth a shot and to stick through it if you try.

I guess for me the dandruff was just a reaction to using too much product.

      • Doubt it seeing as sweat is er … mostly water. And the salts are water soluble. Using shampoo with water to wash it isn't going to improve on water alone much.

    • not to mention the gel that gets stuck there :S eck ..

    • I get minor dandruff and have tried not using any shampoo/conditioner . It doesn't work for me, but anti-dandruff shampoo clears it up.

I've got nothing against people not using shampoo/conditioner (as long as they still bathe/shower!), but if you have greasy hair it can look pretty dirty and gross. i.e. Drew from Big Brother * cowers in shame from admitting to watching Big Brother *

Yes! It does work! I only started washing my hair without any product at all around 4 weeks ago after reading an online article. At first, I thought it was disgusting and unclean as I grew up using shampoo very often and it became the norm in our household. I had dandruff for about 3 years and I was very reliant on anti-dandruff shampoo (especially Head & Shoulders). My head was very irritable, my hair was very very VERY oily and had dandruff everyday despite using the shampoo. So I tried washing my hair with water only.
After 1-2 weeks, my scalp was incredibly itchy and my dandruff started to get worse, but I persisted in this method and it paid off. After the 3rd week, I saw a drastic change: my scalp was no longer oily and my dandruff was reduced to about 80%. On the 4th week, I no longer have large flakes but only a few tiny flakes. My hair does not look oily, but looks clean, silky and smooth. My hair does not get oily or itchy anymore. When I scratch my scalp, little to no dandruff comes out. And finally, using the shower less + less product = more savings = bargain! Give it a try, you have nothing to lose!

I can't find the article but the I remember reading that the cause of dandruff is the fungi/bacteria on your scalp that feeds on oil. Because shampoo strips ALL the natural oils from your hair, allostasis kicks in and your head produces more oil than normal to replace the lost oil. By washing your hair with water only, it washes the excesses oil that you see on oily hair whilst leaving the oils on your scalp as a natural conditioner.

Remember: no products whatsoever to be used on your hair!! (but it may not work for you :P)

  • I'm willing to bet these shampoo/conditioner won't work on me. If you have bad dandruff I suggest using a product called "Moogoo" - http://moogoo.com.au abit pricey but their product work for me.
