Hi,
one of my friends has just been made redundant from his factory he worked at for 6.5years, they all got a notice this morning their employment will end as of the 1st NOV.
last i recall a employer had to give well prior notice to employees to prepare them selves for the future; eg looking for a new job or centrelink etc…
based on some like if you have worked more then say 3 years you will get 2-weeks notice.
long service leave is 10 years after right?
This is mostly state law, so the answer will depend.
General practice is 4 weeks 'notice' if you have worked more than 1 year. Note however that this is usually paid out rather than given as notice, so you end in a week, but get paid for the next 3 weeks on top of this.
On top of this most redundancy packages pay out an amount for each year of work. I don't think there are any fixed rules on how much this should be (will depend on type of employment anyway).
Finally you get paid out all leave owing. In Victoria you get paid long service leave if you have been there at least 7 years.
