It looks like Bunnings might be clearing out older model Makita similar to previous Makita Deal

Similar package to this newer model

Also the product description online is slightly off as it has 2 x 1.3Ah not 1.1 , and there is an "Extra 3rd 1.1Ah battery" in the box Pic

  • Man I just paid $169 for a milwaukee impact driver skin on the weekend. Wish Id seen this.

    • This is the piss poor home use kit, the 1.1 batteries are really weak.

      Better with the meatier models.

      • it actually comes with 2 x 1.3's , i had uploaded the photo but post got modded

        • My apologies. Didn't realise the picture showed any additional info so I just linked directly to the deal. I have linked again to the pic in the description.

        • +1

Not so bad for home stuff, be prepared to charge often. I'm a trade though so I only use the BL1830 batteries (and matching tools) But that's overkill for him use.

        • +1

no worries , you made it better than my original attempt :) +1 for you

        • I thought that Makita offers 3 years warranty since Nov 2011 but I could be wrong….

        • They do on their standard line of products, but not sure on these Bunnings only ones!

        • mine says 1 year only (but i got the 2x 1.1Ah battery kit)

        • +1

I thought that Makita offers 3 years warranty since Nov 2011 but I could be wrong….

Ok, check out this link Makita Warranty!
Any Lithium-Ion powered tool purchased after Nov 1st 2012 is now 3 years, any tool before this date is only 12 months! And Batteries, Chargers and Torches are still just the 12 months!

        • I'm intrigued now. Can you tell me the model numbers of both your 1.3Ah batteries and charger?

I just got the 2 x 1.1Ah (BL1811G) batteries with a DC18WA charger - which both the instructions and sticker on the bottom says will only charge 1.1Ah batteries.

        • I'll check the charger when I get home…But the batteries are BL1813G (& the 1x1.1Ah 11G like yours)!
As for warranty, it'll just be the 1 year on the batteries and charger, but if you keep the receipt you should get the 3 years on the actual tools themselves.

        • The charger is also a DC18WA. This one says it's rated 14.4-18V and 1.65-1.1A.

      • This is the piss poor home use kit, the 1.1 batteries are really weak.
        Better with the meatier models.

        beakerboo,
I was telling someone last week the exact same thing… " http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/119907#comment-1642463 " Great for the Handyman/DIYer, but not for a proper tradie! Apparently he's been a tradie for 26 years using these!!!

    • if its a Milwaukee M18 or a M18 FUEL range, and you already have the batteries (either 1.5amp, 3amp or 4amp) your way better off than buying this makita kit. Tool envy not required!

    • But Milwaukee backs there tools with a 5 year warranty unlike this Makita which at a guess 1 year?

  • How did you know this price was $350? I been bunnings very often and mention this always $199 for long time. Only difference is your deal has extra battery. Still bargain:)

There is another makita kit for $349. But it has better drill and impact driver and also LED light. Hope you didn't mix up :)

    • yeah forgot to take the photo in-store, had the old price and the clearance price poster over the top of the stack

  • I wonder what happens in 2-3 years when the batteries die. I presume you won't be able to buy replacements as Makita are switching battery designs?

    • I dont think that matters for this price range, you would never buy new batteries, you would just buy a new kit. That would be another level up (every year the low range get a little better).

I don't get the multi use battery deal of DIY guys, im not going to take the battery out of my drill and put it in a hedge trimmer. Id rather have specific tools for specific jobs with their own power source. its simply a way of the manufacturers getting you to buy a whole product range that takes the same batteries, so when the batteries or tech is obsolete you have to buy everything all over again.

That way you can get the best deal on each different brand at a time and the best suited product/brand for the use at the time.

      • Have bought kits of things previously

say needed a drill and the extra items could be handy but not essential last one had a torch and something else that ic ant recall as it was along time ago

what it means is that for the regular use item i have 2 or 3 batteries rather than just 1 battery so can always have 1 backup and then charge the flat one

    • +1

also if you are using the gear a fair bit, by the time the batteries die the brushes would be well worn as well (these things arent brushless)

      • Do you know if it is straight forward to replace the brushes in these motors, or just not worth it to do so and buy a new one?

        • +1

I have a BHP548 and would have to assume it's a similar process despite my drill being a much higher end model.

Just 2 screws out the back of the drill and a little access hatch comes off allowing easy replacement of brushes.

A nice design IMO compared to the standard screw in brushes.

        • Okay cool thanks twwyt, now it will just be a matter of finding the brushes when they wear out…

      • You don't actually have to use it for the batteries to die, as lithium-ion batteries degrade over time. Heat kills them more quickly as well, so keeping them in the shed or trunk will degrade them more quickly.

    • There are places where you can get your battery repacked with higher capacity cells. 1.1Ah is really low nowadays with most manufacturers offering 2.0Ah in 5S1P config or 4.0Ah in 5S2P config. Anyway, they are not suppose to die that quick unless you have been neglecting them. Never run Lithium fully discharged, charge when you can, but store them half discharged. It's not an easy thing to do.

      • I called one of those repacking places a while back to get a battery for a laptop. The guy said just buy a ready-made third-party one (which he sold), as it'll be cheaper than the cost (labour + parts) of repacking it.

        Oh well!

  • that's a nice deal.

I got metabo driver and impact driver kit + tourch + drill bit set + toolbag last month at a higher price than this http://www.justtools.com.au/prod7430.htm

  • Bought the same pack (drill + impact driver + 3 batteries), but Bosch a little while ago from bunnings. Came with a case for the drill as well. Also $199 (same price as they had for the drill by itself). Makita is maybe considered better, I don't know, but the Bosch had better batteries. Might still be available if you prefer this one instead. This is the model of the drill (but came with impact driver and a third battery):
    http://www.bunnings.com.au/bosch-18v-li-ion-cordless-2-speed…

EDIT: also came with charger, same as makita deal. Not sure if it is still available, but worth having a look if you go in for the makita deal. I'll let someone else decide which kit is better, but this is the impact driver I think:
    http://www.bunnings.com.au/bosch-18v-li-ion-cordless-impact-…

    • I too bought the Bosch kit but haven't opened it yet so bought the Makita and will return the Bosch.

If anyone in Sydney wants the Bosch I actually bought it for $168 and am happy to give it to you for the same price with the receipt. If no one wants it, it's going back to Bunnings.

No comparison! The Makita deal has TWO separate devices - drill + impact driver …… AND THREE batteries

      • +1

So does the Bosch but with better batteries than the Makita lol read again

        Edit; here's the previous deal
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114507

        • I just bought the Bosch combo yesterday at Bunnings Rockhampton. There were two left and they are still $198. Really compact and powerful little tools. Driving screws with the impact driver is an unbelievable experience. I thought I just needed a drill but the impact driver has already proven to be more useful than the drill.
Quality seems to be exceptional as well.

        • -1

Yes, but that's NOT the deal that fruxo linked.

        • -1

Yes, but that's NOT the deal that fruxo linked.

        • +1

I couldn't find package, so I explained it in the text and linked the main drill (while also explaining that this was the main drill, but it also had the other items). I later added the impact driver as well. Anyway, doesn't really matter, just not sure what you are on about. The deal Roozy linked to is obviously the one I meant.

        • To be fair, FRUXO made it really clear in their post. I'll repeat, lol read again.

  • Can the impact driver be used as just a screwdriver too? i.e. does it have a non-impact mode?

    • With this combo you won't need to worry about that, will you! Because it comes with a drill/driver with adjustable torque settings that allow you to do the job properly! Unless you're talking about heavy loads, ie. redgum, hardwood, sleepers, etc. Then you'll need the impact driver to screw into it!

      • I'm actually thinking of times where I need to swap between two different screwdriver bits and it would be handy if I could load up each of these with the correct bit and just swap between them.

        • Irwin have a thinggy that's an extension / quick release thing that's quite handy … ummm …

          "Irwin Quick-Change Bit Holders"

  • Think some of these packs are different when I was at capalaba buying the makita drill driver combo, they had some of these. 1.1mah batteries and only two in the box.

I would rarely require an impact driver so i just went the $99 drill/driver pack, if they had 3 x 1.3ah batteries i would have gone for it.

  • Any impact wrenches for sale? I notice bunnings only have one or two different types.

    • You should check out Sydney Tools. They've usually got some pretty good pricing there! (But they don't sell the cheaper range like Bunnings)

  • Staff at Bunnings told me this is NOT old stock, it's some cheaper range Makita has brought in just to hit this price point - and to be aware that these are NOT part of the LXT range with interchangeable batteries i.e. The batteries in this pack do not fit the other Makita LXT products. I ended up walking out with the Ryobi set 6 tools for $399 which is what I had been looking at for a while.

    • +1

Never, Ever, expect sales staff to give impartial, unbiased opinions on anything. Their job is to SELL you something, that they have in stock, for as much as possible. Sad but true :)

      • Yeah so true - I went with what I had been looking at for a while anyway - but I thought the advice about the batteries was a good one for anyone with other Makita LXT gear.

      • +3

Their job is to SELL you something, that they have in stock, for as much as possible. Sad but true :)

That's not entirely true. Plenty of times I've had someone recommend a cheaper version of a product I was looking at. I even had a kid from Officeworks that told us to go down the road because the phone my wife was after was being cleared out a lot cheaper than they could do!
Usually the advice you get isn't always factual and isn't always price based. What you'll find they're telling you is just based entirely on their personal opinion. That's what I do!

        • +1

agreed. especially given that chains like bunnings, the staff aren't on commission. whether they sell 1 or 100, it doesn't make a difference to their pay packet.

  • If you're buying a new drill because your old ni-cd batteries won't charge anymore you should try 'zapping' them. Heaps of videos on youtube like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e8hHLyXAyQ .

I gave it a go on 4 of my batteries that wouldn't charge anymore. 2 charge up fine now, the other 2 only hold charge for a few hours. Worth a go, but be careful, it's potentially dangerous ;)

EDIT: Only works on Ni-Cd batteries. Don't try it on anything else.

  • Quick question - Why does Bunnings not update the webpage and other advertisements to reflect that these batteries are actually 1.3AH and that there is infact a third battery tossed in.

It seems counter intuitive as those inclusions make this a much better deal.

    • I had a good look at the pack in my Local Bunnings and it was definitely only 2 batteries - and they were only 1.1AH on the box - so maybe there are different products out there.

      • Maybe it's old/er stock! I bought one Friday after seeing this post, and my one came with the 3 batteries (2x1.3Ah and bonus 1.1Ah)!

        • Yeah that box is obvious with the large red circle on it about the third battery - the one I saw did not have that.

  • I'll still give the OP a +1 because I bought one, even though the guys were talking about this deal back on Friday!

  • anyone seen any for sale South east melbourne?

went looking saturday trying to find the $99 one with no luck, was willing to buy the $199 but also with no luck :(

    • I got mine from Keysborough store (Springy Rd) on Friday night. There was at least a dozen still left there then! The $199 combo kit that is!

  • Cranbourne Bunnings had plenty Yday($99). Better call them before you go.

  • The guy in front of me got the last 2 boxes with the 3rd battery. I had to settle for 2 1.1Ah batteries :(

  • Is his combo better than the Bosch 18V Li-Ion Drill Driver & Impact Drill Driver Combo Kit sell for $198 in Masters?

    Here is the link:

    http://m.masters.com.au/product/100814546/bosch-18v-li-ion-d…

    • Probably more depends on what brand you prefer! They're both from their cheaper range of tools, and both spec'd fairly similar. Makita specs. Personally, I like the Makita. But that's based purely on my experience with other power tools that I own!

Edit: Also note that the Bosch drill is definitely an older outdated model as Bunnings are selling the new upspec'd PSR 81 LI-2… at a dearer price of course!

    • From the (minimal) specs I can compare online, the makita drill/driver has a much higher top speed.
The Bosch has larger capacity batteries.

      • The Bosch still has 1.3Ah batteries like (most of) the Makitas!
Disclaimer: You'll have to check individual boxes on the the Makita combo kit because some have reported it came with only the 2x1.1Ah batteries and others (like mine) have come with 2x1.3Ah & the 1 bonus 1.1Ah battery!

    • Note that you can get the same kit as you linked, but with the newer gen2 drill, for $199 at bunnings as well (where stock is still available). See my post further up (there's a link to that deal as well by other poster). So yes, go for bosch instead if you want, but at least grab the new model and not the old one from masters.

  • I bought this set the other day! There were about 10 left at campbelltown bunnings. Most had the 2 x 1.3ah batteries with a bonus 1.1ah thrown in. You can tell these ones because they have a large red sticker on one side of the box. The case it comes in seems durable enough as well, and has enough room in it for some small drill bit/driver bit sets.

Man, the impact driver is a fun tool. Having never used an impact driver before i was very impressed with the speed and raw power that this thing belts screws in!

I plan to use it to line my garage with plywood. It will be handy to have the drill for pre-drilling and the driver ready to go to drive screws in, and not have to stop to change bits etc.

Plus you get to feel like an F1 pit crew member with the ratchet noise the impact driver makes :D

  • what is the difference between impact driver and drill driver

what purpose are they used differently?

    • Impact drivers are much noisier than drill driver when the impact mechanism kicks in. Think of it as an air impact wrench tyre shops use. Impact drivers has very high torque and no clutch setting, so you may strip screw threads if you lose control.

  • drill driver does not have the 'hammer' effect but the impact driver does…

impact driver is great fir doing the screws into the fence (did my whole place) used the drill driver to do the 2mm hole with countersink

    perfect combo IMO

Some drills have the hammer/driver function. It does pretty much both jobs but is bigger and heavier than just a drill driver and you need to swap bits

better to have them both, seperate IMO

  • terribly weak batteries.
worth spending a little extra for a set with better batteries.

    • I agree that the batteries aren't great… But it's more than a little extra!!!
You can get the better tools with the 1.5Ah for about the $350 mark, but with 3.0Ah it's gonna be about $450.

  • Makita are launching and now shipping 4Ah batts with new kits/deals. They are headed to a store near you or you can buy batts online as i (think) this uses standard batts unlike the 1.1ah bunnings makita offering (but check, dont take my word for it) as non standard batts suck balls as you cant use them in other Makita products and were made especialy for bunnings

    • The batteries that come with these BL1811G &/or BL1813G are different to the standard range of batteries by Makita. But they're not specifically made for Bunnings as they are available, as are the tools, all over the world. They are, as people have suggested, made by Makita to compete in this 'cheaper' price bracket! There are also other tools that Makita make that will take these batteries, but it's not easy getting info on these tools as they're not marketed directly by Makita. (ie. DF457DWE & HP457DWE)
