Sending overseas parcels without a customs declaration

I'm looking to send some large letter size items to the US preferably without having to go to the post office. I know anything other than docs needs a customs dec normally but has anyone had any success with doing this? I've received this type of letter from the US without a customs dec before.

Before you ask, it's not about sending illegal items it's just avoiding waiting in line behind grannies paying bills in my lunch break.

  • Go early in the morning at least before 1 pm usually the post office free.

I tried once to send some stuff by put them in the red box but got them back to my address.

  • if you have a shopping centre nearby, you might find the post office there is open 7 days, just check the AusPost website for opening hours. I find sat/sun early morning are pretty quick for service, because the blue-rinse customers don't get in there as early. stay away from them on weekdays, you can also use Business Post offices, which get very few of the granny/family customers and run things much faster, because they don't have retail products, just parcel and post.

  • +1

You could use AusPost's clickandsend.com.au but you'll need to use the courier pickup to avoid visiting a post office. ID is required for overseas parcels. If you have a few to do though, the cost ($20) would be spread over them all and may be worthwhile.

  • I have sent a few items overseas without declaration.
As long as they are document (in a not-so-thick envelope) they are ok.
I can confirm they have received it without any troubles:)
